Fresh off their first Mid-Columbia
Conference football title since 2008,
the Southridge Suns are preparing for their next challenge.
Friday night, Southridge hosts
the University Titans of Spokane
in a winner-take-all playoff matchup with a trip to the
Class 3A state tournament on the line.
This week, we met up with the team for a look at what's ahead
for the Suns. You know, we have a creed
and culture that this group specifically has really
We're really bought into and our coaches do a great job
Talking about it in the summer
and implementing it throughout the whole season.
And, you know,
one of our biggest parts of our creed is being relentless.
And, you know, we talk about, you know, what's that mean
to you guys as players, coaches, kind of share their own stories.
And so I think having that mindset as a team is like never giving up.
It doesn't matter the score.
You know, we're going to play for each other
and have that mindset throughout life and football.
And in general, I think is a great way to describe our team.
Like they've truly bought into that.
And it's fun to be a part of.
Every team we've played, we've never been.
bigger than and that's that's not our main attribute. Our main like
difference maker on in the game is our team speed
and I think that is just what
helps us dominate on the field especially
on defense. I'm a sophomore so
playing with all these upperclassmen it's
been really fun and I just want to
give it my all for them. They've really set
the tone at practice and just off
the field just everything they do.
It would mean everything you know like to
Making sure like all that we've done throughout
this season like it actually pays off like
we're 0-0 right now like if we lose this game our our season is over
so it means everything to just
keep advancing and keep advancing
and keep being able to play with my team. I feel amazing like
everything that we've worked for coming up
to here. You watch the high school
games as a kid and
you know back when I wasn't I was in middle school elementary school
you look up to these guys like they're you know gods.
Honestly it would mean
everything to me and you know it's my first year starting and
everything I dreamed of before
the season I told everybody I want to be MCC
champs, I want to go to the playoffs, win state
and so to see some of that unfold so far winning the MCC like
this is everything I I don't really plan on playing college football.
And so this really is it for me,
if we win state we have four or five games left and
I know that once we get into the playoffs for real,
that anything can happen.
And we know what we're capable of, and we can beat anybody.
They just want to win.
They don't care who gets the credit.
One guy could have four touchdowns one game,
and then the next game have zero and be just as happy.
And it's a pretty special thing to have.
It'll be a pretty dang good feeling.
We've had quite a bit of those this year.
I think the coolest thing for us,
and we've talked about as a staff and as a team,
is it means we get one more week out here to practice together.
Because it's pretty special.
Football is an awesome sport, and sports in general.
This will be the last time this whole group is together.
It's pretty big and special.
So I think that's one thing that we talked about
after the Kennewick win is like,
hey, let's do this as long as we can.
And I know for a fact if we do that,
yes, we'll feel proud of ourselves.
I think that's one thing our kids have done a great job
all year about.
