Continue our coverage of the
flooding up in North Georgia.
Fox 5's Eli Jordan is just across
the state line from McKaysville
up up in Copper Hill, TN.
Eli, what is the situation there?
Hey, good afternoon. Yes, it's pretty, pretty dire up here.
A lot of flooded out silt all over the
road. Let me show you around here.
This is a, this is a culvert right here on West Tennessee,
West Tennessee Road here in Copper Hill, Tennessee.
And this is Fighting Town Creek. It
normally never gets like this. Culvert was washed out.
Now you see the silt here and all that. The
water was above, got as high over where I'm at,
over my head, over six feet high. And this is
Sandra and Tommy's house right on Fighting Town Creek.
You see it's just swollen as it can be.
There's lots of property, lawn chairs,
patio chairs, wood floating through here. And there
have been some swift water rescue crews driving through here,
checking on. But this house right
here, Tommy.
In Sandra Edwards house, got six feet of water inside of it.
And if we take a look at the video,
go inside and you see it's just a complete loss.
Everything's just damaged, silt all over the
floor. There's still about several inches of water
on the floor in there. They lost three nice
motorcycles. They were living life here,
the retired couple, just been here for over a decade
and they have never seen anything like this before.
And I spoke to Sandra about what it was
like last night when they realized things
were flooding. Here's what she had to say.
It rained all day yesterday,
and it was storming last night around 8, 7, 8 o'clock, back to back.
And I was watching the weather, getting alerts,
but it was warning Blue Ridge, not here.
So I thought we were okay, so we went to bed at 1130.
He got up at about 2 o'clock to go to the bathroom
and said our house was flooded.
And I jumped up, and I come out into the living room
and seen stuff floating.
Then I looked out and seen the water over our deck,
and I said, we've got to get out now.
So we just grabbed the dog, got out, he almost got locked in the house.
Yeah, Tommy and Sandra both got out and their dog Willow got out.
And as you can see here back live, here's one of those propane tanks
drifting down Fighting Town Creek here in Copper Hill, Tennessee.
And, you know, more and more of this is coming down.
There's several driving through here through the valleys.
You can see several propane tanks just washed up against hills,
caught up in the debris as the floods came through.
But this is what's happening right now.
You know, Tommy said that they could not get back
into the house until about midnight.
just about four hours ago when the waters kind of went down
and they're still waiting for them
to go down but everybody's busy here
and they're just kind of waiting just you know
for emergency crews to do their job before they can
do anything. It's just wait and see.
But as you can see, I mean, a propane
tank floating down another one. I mean,
there's been several of these out here.
Of course, there's no gas line. So everybody uses,
a lot of people use propane and have these tanks in their yards.
And when these floods come, well,
I mean, as bad as the floods were, you get what you see here.
But that's what's going on right
now. It's still, you know,
major things are in flux here in Copper Hill, Tennessee. But
we're gonna go check it out.
We'll be out here all afternoon. Back to you.
Yeah, such a tough scene there, Eli.
We'll certainly check in with you throughout the afternoon.
Thanks so much.
Well, now time for.
