Midterm election results bring divided government

And Democrats are still celebrating big wins
in this week's midterm elections
as Republicans debate over what went wrong.
Douglas Ader has more from Washington this morning,
where both parties are preparing for a new era of divided government.
In the midterm aftermath,
there are not many signs of outreach between the president and
Democratic leaders in Congress as they prepare for the next two years.
President Trump watching as a ceremonial beam
is put in place as he constructs his new White
House ballroom and deconstructs what happened on Tuesday.
Massive Republican losses despite
dozens of rallies around the country.
There was such love at those rallies. It was incredible.
We weren't able to transfer the love to candidates.
His vice president was more blunt,
writing a post-election analysis that landed on this.
The reason we lost is the war.
And polling does indicate that along with the economy,
the war with Iran may have been a big
driver. Today begins the great American comeback.
The Democrats still basking in the victories and promising to
bog down the president's final two years.
Whenever Trump defies the will of the
American people or the law, we will launch investigations,
take him to court and entangle him
in legislative razor wire. But Democrats have their own internal
leadership questions to sort out
and that could expose divisions within the party.
Republicans on Capitol Hill and elsewhere ponder what's next,
especially in 2028.
Some likely contenders for the White House
were trying to distance themselves from Tuesday's
losses. This was a rejection of Republicans in Washington,
and Democrats just happened to be
the beneficiary. And despite Democrats controlling both chambers
of Congress next year, the president
says he is not concerned at all about
the possibility of another impeachment.
