This video analyzes the unique penalty kick strategy of Trayvon Reed, a player in the Jamaican Premier League. Known for his \"creep step\"—an incredibly slow, methodical approach to the ball—Reed had a nearly perfect record before recently going viral for two consecutive saves by the same goalkeeper.
Everybody get ready to meet your new favorite player.
His name is Trayvon Reed.
Plays in the Jamaican Premier League.
And he is right there in blue complaining that it was a handball.
This breakdown is brought to you by SeatGeek.
He says, sir, he swiped the ball.
And that's illegal.
The ref says, yada, yada, yada.
Okay, you know what?
I will go look at it.
And then he looks at it.
And let's see the player in orange.
Does his hand
Hit that ball.
Is it an unnatural motion?
It looks like it does extend a little bit there.
Can we get any closer?
He's watching.
We're all watching that left arm.
Does it extend and hit the ball from this angle?
It kind of looks like it does.
But from this angle, does it go clean under
the ball and it bounces over him?
Who knows?
Those are the only angles we have.
Anyway, the official says, yep, handball.
That'll be a penalty kick.
And he's like, what?
What?
I disagree.
Here's the action.
Here's why this went viral.
Here's why I found it.
Because this is the strategy he goes with on the penalty kick.
He is just towing the line.
Toe to heel, toe to heel.
What is the strategy?
Just to be a little different and weird.
And then he looks like he softly kicks it.
And the keeper saves it.
Everyone watching at home is like, duh, that's not going to work.
And it didn't work.
It would have given his team a 2-0 lead.
Look at this.
What is the keeper supposed to do?
Just waiting, waiting, makes the save.
It would have given his team a 2-0 lead.
Instead, it remains 1-0,
and then Club Sando is able to tie it up on that play.
Perfect, beautiful pass off the post right to that dude, number 21,
who makes the play, leans into his teammates, gets all cute about it.
And I will say, I just watched the rest
of this Jamaican Premier League game,
and it was, it was, like, cool.
It was aggressive soccer,
everyone just getting hit and colliding with each other.
Like, you know, there wasn't flops.
And then we had this save where the keeper runs out
and then they're about to put it in.
But the dude, the defender just jumps up
and floats up there to header it out.
Bang!
And then falls down.
Anyway, the next game, our guy, Trayvon Reed,
they're playing against the same team.
They're playing Club Sando again.
The same keeper.
He gets another penalty kick.
He does the same strategy.
Reggie, duh, duh.
And then, goes to the right this time.
It's saved again.
He can't believe it.
The fans now, okay, it was funny one time, two times is an issue.
People are getting on him.
They're asking the coach after the match,
are you going to change who takes kicks for you?
Because this...
He's 0 for 2 in his last two,
and he's doing this weird strategy that isn't working, and
they had to answer, and the coach said, no, he's our guy.
We're going to go with it.
Now, here's where it gets better.
I did a deep dive because I read an article that said,
this is a strategy he's done a
lot, and it's worked for him.
I was like, okay, well, he's 0 for the last two on this strategy.
How often has he done it?
And what's his record and all the others?
He has taken 22 professional penalty kicks.
We just watched the last two.
I was able to find footage of 16 of his first 20.
This is the first one we have.
He's playing for Harborview, another team, February 21st, 2022.
This is the first time we see it.
He's much younger.
He's a little leaner, and he's marching in very slow.
So it...
And then, see there, he kind of pauses and kicks and scores.
So at that point, okay, it works.
The keeper's like, what the hell was that?
What am I supposed to do?
And on replay, the tail end, it always just looks very benign.
Now, his next two, I could not find footage of,
but he made his second, so he went two for two,
and I would put...
Heavy money, he did the creep step, the slow step.
And then the third one, he missed wide.
It wasn't saved.
He missed the net, which brings us to June 7th.
This is his fourth time.
And you can see it's abbreviated there.
We didn't get footage from the beginning, but he scores again.
So he's now three for four.
June 21st of 2022, he starts leaning in.
And then goes.
And now he scores again.
So he's just gaining confidence in this strategy, in this somersault.
Wow.
Some people are doing backflips.
He's doing a somersault.
That's for the people.
Everyone can do that.
Look at the replays.
They're just simple.
I guess a lot of kicks are at the end.
All right.
June 24th, 2022.
Now he's facing the same goalie he just scored the previous one on.
Is there going to be a counter from either?
And his counter is, I'm going to go slower.
And the keeper is like, okay, let's get active.
I'm going to stay ready.
I'm going to stay ready because he can go at any time.
I'm staying ready.
I'm active.
All right, I'll wait it out.
He's not even close to the ball.
Well, just he's not even, is he moving forward?
Oh, damn.
So this is like, this sucks.
What do I do?
And if you're Trayvon Reed, you're like, what do I do?
I keep doing what I do.
This works.
Why aren't other people doing it?
July 3rd, his next one, look at this.
He starts it even sooner.
He's averaging nine seconds as soon as his body starts moving forward.
This one cracks me up because the network had time
to cut to a close-up and then cut back.
And then it's just not even a hard kick.
You know, there's not that much on it
because you're not running into it.
I don't know how much this really alters the result,
but it seems to be working.
No keeper has made a save on him yet,
and he's just scored.
Now, this is interesting.
In 2024, he played for a team in the USL.
So it's an American team in Oakland.
And did he have the same swagger and energy?
No, he didn't do it.
Maybe he did five steps.
So maybe he didn't feel like in the United States
he could properly express himself
and play the way he plays.
He still made the kick for his team, though.
Doesn't matter.
Back in 2025, he's back with Harborview,
back in Jamaica, back to the creep step, back to
going slow, and then springs forward.
That's a nice one.
He makes it again.
Yet to have a shot saved.
He just missed the net once.
February 23rd, 2025.
Let's do it.
Let's dance.
Boom.
Dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-boo!
And it's easy, and it's in.
Okay, the next league.
Harborview still, September 15th,
but this is the next season, and look at him now.
Now he's just dancing.
Look how slow.
Look at the keeper.
What do I do?
And you do nothing.
You just get scored on.
I'm Trayvon Reed, and I have perfected this.
Okay, December 11th, same season, 2025.
The keeper's just bored.
He's like, all right, I'll wait.
I've seen this.
Look at everyone just waiting, just crazy.
Look how slow that is, and then boom.
Just easy.
So now we're just going to keep going.
Look at how slow this is.
Doo-doo.
I wonder what he's thinking about when he's doing it.
What is it?
Look, that is such a soft kick.
It's got to be demoralizing to be the
keeper and have this happen to you.
Like what?
February 19th.
Thank
Just very slow.
On some of them, he took 25 tiny steps before kicking the ball.
I think that's the most amount of steps I counted was 25.
The average is nine seconds.
The longest one was 14 seconds on his way to the ball.
you.
Now we come to his 17th penalty kick of his professional career.
And look at this.
Looks like he's just like a predator sneaking up on his prey.
And he missed.
The net, so that's the second time he has not made it,
and the opposing team is laughing at him like,
duh, dumb strategy, and he's like,
dude, do you know my record?
I'm 15 for 17, creep stepping,
and no keeper's ever made a save on me.
I just missed the net.
You're lucky.
Now let's go to the most recent season.
He's on Mount Pleasant now.
He's not on Harborview anymore,
and he says, okay, I'm so stupid.
It's very silly.
I mean, you got to really try to walk that slow.
If you did that,
To the cops, when they pull you over, they'd be like, you're drunk.
That's not normal, and you're out of here.
Makes it again.
Now, this one's really good.
September 27th, he's sneaking up on the ball, sneaking up on the ball.
He's going slow, as slow as he can,
and then the official is like, uh, no.
Maybe he's talking about 9 and 14,
because they were fighting over where to stand.
He's like, cut it out, but we've got to restart it.
So now, it would be funny if he just sprinted here,
but Trayvon Reed does what Trayvon Reed does,
and he slow steps, and he creeps up on the ball,
sneaks up on it like he's a lion,
attacking, and then a little vigor on that kick
makes it again.
That was his 19th.
He's 17 for 19, and no keeper has ever made a save.
He's lights out.
If he puts it on net, it's going in.
October 4th, 2026, his team is down one.
He's got a chance to tie it.
And he makes it.
Okay, so that brings us straight up
into the ones I started the video with.
So before he went 0 for 2
and the keeper made both saves
and they went viral
and the coach got asked,
are you going to remove him?
Before that, he was 18 for 20.
And when he put the ball on target,
he was 18 for 18.
It wasn't until he faced Tayshaun Raghu,
the keeper for Club Sando,
that he got stopped.
So is Trayvon Reed going to remain
the guy who takes penalty kicks for his club?
Absolutely.
Is he going to slow step, creep step it?
He better, because we're all fans now.
Thank you very much for tuning in.
