They tell you a trip can change your life. I never believed that, until I spent three days on the back of a motorbike in the far north of Vietnam.

This is my Ha Giang Loop: a night bus from Hanoi, about 350 km of mountain roads along the Chinese border, Ma Pi Leng Pass, a boat through the Nho Que canyon, a night dancing in Dong Van’s old quarter, and a last day in the rain. I came here underprepared, a little lost and very, very sore. I left with something I’d never really felt before.
