Video Summary
AI GeneratedDemocrats have secured major victories in the midterm elections, regaining control of both the House and the Senate. Key wins include historic breakthroughs in Texas and Michigan, alongside losses for long-term Republican incumbents. This shift in power is expected to significantly limit the president's legislative agenda and influence over foreign policy during his final two years.
Democrats across the country celebrating after notching major wins
in the midterm elections.
Some races have yet to be called,
but Republicans have now lost both houses of Congress.
And there were a lot of firsts that were made overnight.
As we get to Doug, who's live in Washington.
Once again, he's outside. You know it's another important day
if he's outside the studio.
Good to see you.
Must be.
Alex and Thomas, good morning.
Democrats were able to ride this big wave of voters.
A discontent last night and we will start this morning in Michigan.
Let them know tomorrow that the bad guys lost.
That was Michigan's new Senator-elect,
Abdul El-Sayed, early this morning, wrapping up
a major win that helped Democrats take the Senate.
We just took back Texas.
Running up the score was James Tallarico,
the first Democrat to win a Texas Senate race in nearly four decades.
Well, let me start off by congratulating James Tallarico.
And that was among many Republican concessions,
including in Maine, where Senator Susan Collins will see
her 30-year Senate career come to an end.
Even in South Carolina, Republican Darlene Graham lost
to Democrat Annie Andrews, despite an intense effort
by President Trump to push her across the finish line.
Right around midnight, the president acknowledged what
was happening to even some of his hand-picked candidates.
Well, I'm a little bit surprised. I thought they'd do better.
Control of the House will swing to Democrats, too,
putting severe limits on the president's remaining two years.
And that extends to the war in Iran.
And in our poll, 74% of voters said it was a crucial or major factor.
We knew we probably wouldn't get final results for days.
Some results still coming in, including in the Alaska Senate race,
where two Dan Sullivans were on the ballot.
The margin between Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan
and Democrat Mary Paltola is still too close to call.
Now, President Trump did say that he could work
with Democrats once they take control next year,
but he also said that he would use his veto pen if necessary,
and Thomas and Alex, he may be using it quite a bit.
Yeah, certainly with this shift in balance here, we shall see.
It's going to be very interesting,
the conversations that are had this morning,
especially in the Republican Party.
All right, Doug, from Washington this morning.
Doug, thank you.
