Philip Till is with me here on set now,
our international affairs editor as well.
So, Philip, these results are coming in.
They appear to be even better
for the Democrats than even the polls were suggesting.
I suppose the big question now is what is going to be the reaction?
We've got a few little hints already, haven't we, of Donald Trump?
Well, he's been giving comments to the New York Times newspaper saying
that he was absolutely willing to work with the Democrats
and accept the results of these elections.
Saying actually he would look forward to working with them
and that several Democrats had contacted him already,
willing to work together with the president.
Although we haven't got any names of those Democrats
who've reportedly contacted Donald Trump.
He's also concentrated this on himself, saying basically,
well, the Republican losses were due to the fact that.
Donald Trump wasn't on the ballot paper.
His decision to go to war with Iran was unpopular,
but it was a very wise decision, he was saying.
He had no regrets about endorsing several candidates
who were poor candidates who didn't stand a chance
of winning for the Republicans in these elections.
And he didn't have any regrets about the first two years
of his second term, saying it was the most successful
two-year period of any president in U.S. history.
So it looks as though Donald Trump is.
Ready to blame others for what has happened and not himself.
There are reports from those who were with him overnight,
some of his closest aides, for example,
some of those who've been closest to him during these first two years,
saying that he was venting his frustration at his political aides
and accusing them of giving him bad information about polling
in the lead up to the election.
I think there's one crucial question here, Stuart, and that is.
What is Donald Trump going to do now?
He said he's going to accept the results of the election,
but Donald Trump can quite easily change his mind.
He's done it before.
Remember back in 2020,
he said he accepted the result of the election,
losing to Joe Biden.
That completely changed afterwards,
said the election was stolen.
We saw the result on the 6th of January, 2021.
It's very unclear about how Donald Trump is going to react
once the news actually sinks in.
