We're going to cross then live to Tehran,
talk to our correspondent who joins us from there, Reza Sire.
Reza, where then does this result leave the war?
Is it just impossible to say, do you think?
I mean, Trump saying he could involve
or his response could involve a heavy hit on Iran.
I think it's hard to say what the impact
of these midterm elections is going to be
in this war, in this conflict,
because it has been an unpredictable conflict ever since
this war started back in June of 2025.
There's been so many analysts,
so many lofty experts and think tanks who've offered predictions
and analysis, and they've been wrong more often than not.
And I think the challenge remains the challenge.
Finding out what the impact is of these midterm elections
on the U.S. war against Iran.
I think the average observer would look
at the midterm elections as a referendum on the
U.S. war against Iran.
And clearly the outcome of the vote
is the American population telling the Trump administration.
The American population doesn't want this war,
and logic would say the U.S. president
would respect the wish of the American people
and perhaps pull back on that war.
The problem is, in the views of many here in Iran
and throughout the world, in the eyes
of many, U.S. President Donald Trump is not your normal president.
He's been a president that, in the eyes of many,
has rejected international law.
international norms. So it's hard to say if you look
at this midterm election and pull back on
the war or follow through with this threat with a third round of war.
Let's talk about Iran's
position. Iran's position,
the position of the leadership is that they're not going to be
distracted by the midterm election.
Their position is that they're locked eroded.
Their working assumption is that U.S. President Donald Trump
is going to launch a third round
of this war and they say they're ready for it.
Their message has been clear that if a third round
of war is launched by the U.S. and or Israel,
that they're going to retaliate and their response is
going to be regional. It's going to be painful
and more widespread than ever. They say they're
going to target energy infrastructure, Israel,
U.S. allies, U.S. assets, again, to make the war
It's painful and possible because it is Iran's position.
That the U.S. has not been honest with their diplomacy
and the only way to get to stop 50 years of what they view as hostility
in war is to make a third round of war as painful as possible.
