This, this is a critical day in our city,
but it is a critical day in our country.
Oh my God.
We have taken back the House,
taken back the Senate.
Team Jeffries is getting ready to be the Speaker of the House.
Oh my goodness, you talk about change.
We're going to put some brakes
on the White House.
The city has spoken. The city is speaking.
Let me just say from the bottom of my heart, thank you Angelinos.
Angelino that came out to vote, thank you to everyone
who believed in this campaign from day one,
who gave their time, their energy,
and their hearts to the future of our great city.
For the votes to be counted,
there is one thing I can tell you with absolute certainty.
I have never been more proud of our city, more grateful for its people,
or more hopeful about what we can accomplish together.
It has been about our belief that Los Angeles is
the greatest city in the country and in the world.
A city where every corner of the world,
people have come in search of opportunity.
A city built by generations of workers, dreamers,
immigrants, artists, and families who believe
that something better was possible and it could be possible here.
A city that despite all
of the challenges still holds extraordinary promise.
Four years ago, you gave me the honor of a lifetime
to serve as the mayor of the city that raised me,
the city my parents chose to build a life in,
and the city I have spent my entire life fighting for.
Every single day I have carried that responsibility with me.
We have taken on some
of the most difficult challenges facing any major city.
We have worked to bring people off the streets,
to make our neighborhoods safer, to build
more housing, and to create more opportunities for working families.
We have faced devastating wildfires
and we stood together when Donald Trump sent federal
troops into our city
and tried to turn our immigrant communities into targets of fear
and intimidation, but our cities stood together.
I have seen the extraordinary courage
and resilience of the people of Los Angeles.
I have seen neighbors open their doors to families
who have lost everything.
I have seen communities to come together to stand up for one another.
And I have seen people refuse to give up on the city,
even when challenges before us seemed
overwhelming.
That is the Los Angeles I know,
that is the city that I love, and this is the Los Angeles
that I will never stop fighting for.
I want to thank the extraordinary people
who made this campaign possible.
To all the volunteers, thank you, thank you, thank you!
To the L.A. County Democratic Party under
the leadership of Mark Ramos, there he is.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
To our partners in labor and under the leadership of labor's Beyonce,
Yvonne Wheeler.
Where is our leader of labor?
All right.
I know she's here.
She's here somewhere because she's always where we need her to be.
Fight for working people and to the faith community,
the business community, the community
organizations, all of the elected officials,
the members of the city council and the president
The President of the City Council,
Marquise Harris-Dawson, Bob Blumenfeld, Monica Rodriguez,
Isabel Jurado.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
And Angelica from Chirla.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
To the Youth for Bass,
and the Youth for Bass were a vital part of this campaign.
And of course to the campaign staff who work day and night.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
And saying thank you is not enough.
To every person who knocked on doors after a long day of work,
who spent a weekend making phone calls, who talked with neighbors,
are encouraged a friend to vote, thank you, thank you, thank you.
And to my family who is on this stage with me,
who has been with me through every hill and valley,
through every campaign, I love you.
Thank you for always being here with me.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
You have all reminded me of something so important.
The strength of a campaign is not only measured
by what happens on election night.
It is measured by the people who brings it together,
the values it stands for, and the
future it asks us to believe in.
And on every one of these measures,
I could not be prouder for what we have built.
We have come too far, worked too hard,
and overcome too much to lose sight of what matters.
And that is why I will never stop believing
in the extraordinary possibilities of my city.
A chance to build
a Los Angeles where working families can afford to live,
where our children can dream without limits.
Where our neighborhoods are safe
and where opportunities reaches every corner of the city.
A Los Angeles where the promise of a better life belongs to all of us.
And that is the Los Angeles we all deserve.
Let me just say it takes a while to count the vote in our city.
But pretty soon we shall know.
And I am confident with all of the work that is done here.
That we will achieve victory.
We will achieve victory.
Los Angeles, I believe in the city,
and I will always fight for the city that we deserve.
With
me,
here,
when
we
fight.
All right. You have been listening
in on a very excited celebratory Karen Bass. I want to be clear,
the race has not been called.
It's essentially 50 to 50 right now. She acknowledged that in her
recent remarks there. This is live
from the Lowe's Hotel in Hollywood. We will have more
coverage of this race,
but we wanted to make sure we brought you Karen Bass,
the incumbent, live here. Phil Schumann's covering this campaign.
