All right, so in today's video,
if you want to take your beard and have that Spartan Viking look
where it's more angular and comes down to more of a point,
then this is the video for you. I'm going
to show and break down to you guys on how to attack that,
whether you're a man at home that
wants to try to do it on yourself and grow it out,
or if you're not and you're a client and you have
a barber that does your beard, you can show him
your barber this video, or you can walk him through
or show him kind of how to attack it, all right?
I know barbers out there, get your beard game up
because I have so many clients that come
to me.
Other barbers are not doing their beard right
and they're just messing it up.
So if you want to elevate your knowledge on beards,

what you think one of your weaknesses when
it comes to beards overall, is it the lining up?
Is it the shape?
Is it how to deal with links?
Things like that.
Let me know down below.
All right.
But today I'm going to give you the foundation on what
to look for and how to really get
that look.
All right, so first, what I like to do is make sure to prep the beard,
make sure it's because right now you can tell it's kind of like a mess.
It's a morning beard. So I'm going to prep the beard, get it right.
We're going to go ahead and then shape and cut the beard, right?
And I'm gonna use a beard strainer to really strain it out
to see if I have the overall shape and the right length.
And after that, we'll go ahead and style it
and you'll know how to do the sparring Viking looking beard.
All right, so let's get into it. First, we'll put
some beard reset foam. This is my prototype.
This is what I've been working on for the past
few months. The official one is coming out in September.
You could pre-order now if you guys
would like to. Once I get them in,
I'm going to ship them out and you'll be one of the first to
get them. And for people in this video watching,
if you do want to try this out, I'll give you a
code. It's called beard reset
and you'll get an extra 15% off your beard reset foam. Okay. What
I like about this, it's no rinse.
So you literally pump in your beard and then you massage it through
your beard and then it's going to help get rid of dirt,
get rid of excess oils. It's going to
You're going to hydrate, condition your beard.
I like to use a pick.
a so like one pump here, one pump
here, one pump here
e
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
I like to use a pick.
And then like I said, all you do is massage it in. After that,
just do one little brush through. I like to use a pick.
And there you have it.
Beard is prepped.
Shoo, should I even?
I mean, it's looking good right now.
No, I'm just kidding.
We're going to make it look like a Spartan look.
So to help you guys visualize,
because I could go in there and do it right now,
but I kind of want to help you guys visualize and see the plan, right?
So the goal is for this area, right?
Pretty much here is going to be the longest point.
And then as we get shorter, as we get back to the jaw.
So a good way to do is kind of like pull your beard in,
wrap this area.
See all this right here is extra.
This should all go.
You see how this is all extra.
It's too low.
This is too much.
It needs to be pulled back and higher.
So that gives you.
That elongated look.
If you have a short face or a chubbier face,
this will help elongate it.
Keep everything tied up here and just long here
and that'll help elongate your face.
If you have a long face right now,
this isn't the look for you.
You should go with more of like a short, medium,
maybe an inch or two, maybe an inch long beard
and keep everything more full
or to keep more shape to your face, okay?
So same thing on this side.
As you see, when I pull this in right here,
you see all this extra right here that needs to be cut.
So what I'm gonna do is kind of get my beard
to be in that shape.
So as you can tell, this bottom line,
I'm not gonna go up too high.
Before I was going up higher,
I'm going to keep this a little bit lower
because you want as much length and as much
density in this middle area.
So I'm going to kind of pull this in a little bit
and I'm going to show you, so all this
is going to get cut.
There's two different ways.
You could come this way.
You can come down.
I'm going to kind of go like this right
now just to get, get the bulk out the way.
All right.
So just go ahead and grab that and then we're going to cut back.
Okay.
If you have a straighter beard, a little bit different.
I could definitely still help you with that,
but there is a little bit different thing.
If you have like a coarse or more curly beard,
this is definitely easier for you to do.
If you have
a straight beard and
you want me to show it,
I'll do on the client.
And what I like about this clipper
is you can shape it, but then also, boom.
If I want to flatten this out a little bit,
I can open it all the way up to whatever length.
Zero, one, half, two.
I'm going to go to two,
and I'm just going to flatten this out a little bit more.
See that difference already?
I'm not done yet.
Do you see that difference of, especially the front angle?
Look how much more slimmer my face is here.
We still need to cut in here, but look how much slimmer
this side is compared to this side.
So now let's do the same thing to this other side.
So same thing, pull this down.
So we got this part slimmed down.
Now we need that side angle.
So I want to make sure I keep this length right.
So like this, I just got to bring that straight back.
So we're going
to use this as
a reference.
Also the bulk out the way with your trimmer.
See how different that looks from the side profile,
see how much, see how it took more hair from here up,
but we still left this low, you can see all that.
So now, do the same thing to this side, get that all done,
and then I'll go ahead and pick out my beard again,
and then we'll really fine tune what needs to be cut.
And there, we'll probably go ahead and fit the mustache,
we'll clean up the cheeks a little bit.
Actually, no, I'm going to keep them natural.
I'll leave that natural. Then we'll straighten
out the beard and then reshape one last time.
So now you use things as reference. You could
use like a finger, right?
My earlobe and it goes down to, you know, one full finger and a little
bit more. So same thing. I can go here, you know, one full finger.
I need to come all the way up to here
And what I like about something like this,
I don't know if you guys have seen my previous videos,
but I said I'm gonna let my grow beard out,
my beard grow out.
What I like about a beard like this is you never,
this is the hardest part to grow, right?
So you never really mess too much with this length.
So you could do something like this, cool, rock it,
and then if you're like, man, I wanna grow back my beard,
all you do is just start dropping this line.
So next time, just keep your line more out compared to up,
and then slowly it'll start to fill in
and it just grows in naturally.
And then boom, now you got a big, full beard,
just how my shape was before.
This beard is versatile, which I like.
So now, as you can see,
A lot more slimmer now.
There's still more work to be done.
Like we need to tighten up here more to really emphasize here.
But let me do this back line
and then I really want to pick it out and then do it again.
Everything's
about angles,
right?
So you want this, the blade to be parallel with length you want, right?
Or the angle you want, sorry.
So if your angle is like this, then your
trimmer needs to be angled like this.
You can't be doing it like this and think you're gonna get that shape,
right?
Keep everything parallel to each other.
Let's hit the mustache real quick.
Push it to the side a little bit.
Give it a little bit more fullness and just line everything up.
So now we got the overall shape done.
Let me just clean myself up.
All right now that we got the overall
shape now we gotta just fine tune it.
So what I'm gonna do is do a pick out.
If I can see you know what really needs to be cut.
So as you can see it got bigger right
because there's lengths underneath.
There's levels to the beards.
So now all I'm gonna do is shape.
So we're bringing this all tight.
Once we do that it'll start to expose more of the side profile.
We'll connect those.
Strain it so we can see how it really looks.
So I like to like kind of look down
and I'm just following this guide right here.
Straight down.
So see, now that we got this cut, it starts to expose.
There, see, you can start to see where we need it to go.
So we're connecting from here.
This is the shortest part.
This is the longest part, okay?
So this is good.
These are too long.
So you just gotta come with the angle.
Boom. Nice shape. No hangover.
Right here is all blended and nice and tight to my face.
We still got that bulk. See the difference?
See how much slimmer this side is? How bulky this side
is? So there's three different levels, right?
You have the bottom part, which is just your lining.
You have your shelf, which is this part right here
that sits on top of the line. And then you
have the top length, right? So that's what I did first.
I did the top. Well, originally from back
then we did the top length. Well,
we took off all the bulk, right? Lined up the bottom and
I'm going to blend everything into that.
So that's why it's smart and good to do that.
Get most of the bulk out the way and then line up
and then blend into that line.
So same thing on this side.
Go down a little bit and straight down.
Pay attention to how my blade is angled with my beard.
Need two hands, use two hands.
Make sure the angle's right first before you go.
Don't just start going down
and the angles is all messed up with your clipper
because then you're gonna mess up your beard.
Just
take
your
time,
relax,
go
little
by
little.
After that, you could just, you know, mess with it,
push in with, you know, make it tighter,
kind of really shape it.
Then you can throw
it right here.
Now,
I mean, because this is how it looks with my curly beard, right?
So you can go ahead and strain it,
especially if you like that straight look.
You can definitely do that.
So I'm going to just show you guys since we're here.
Got the Beard Straightener warming up.
This is the Beard Straightener Carbon X Pro.
I use the West Tech Clipper to shape
and trim down the beard.
And then I use the Stylecraft Flex Trimmer
to make the edge ups, line of the mustache,
all the other stuff, okay?
So we're gonna let this warm up.
Probably gonna take about a minute or so,
so we'll be right back, okay?
All right.
We're back, it's been like two minutes
and it's set to 400, it's nice and hot.
So we're gonna straighten out the beard.
I'm gonna go straight down and then I'm gonna go up and...
Should be good.
This is my beard's curly.
I want to make sure that it's true length
and everything's even.
So then when I shower, wash it out
and it curls up a little bit,
everything is nice and even.
So
here
we go.
Now we're going to go up.
From here, you could check, it looks good.
But from here, when you combed it up,
we saw these angles weren't like sharp enough.
That's when you would kind of go in and realign those up.
I'll go back and just kind of realign those up.
Make sure they're nice and sharp.
Yeah, like.
Extra hairs are hanging over.
But you want to leave these extra hairs hanging over here.
That's what's going to give the volume of the beard sit on top of it,
okay?
So now comb it down, back down.
And the reason why I didn't put any beard oil
or anything into my beard before I straightened it
was because I used that beard reset foam,
which gives it, you know, condition.
It adds the natural oils.
Well, not the natural oils,
but adds the oils back into your beard and hydrates it
so that layer of protection on your follicle.
So you're okay.
And after I combed everything up and when I was coming back down,
I didn't go underneath my beard.
I didn't curl in.
I just came off my face.
The first one, I went through the whole beard just
to really detangle everything, make sure everything's straight.
Then I combed up, right?
And after that, I just came off my face, okay?
I'm not going in.
I went off my face.
So it keeps everything at its true length,
and you're not getting any beard dips,
not getting any divots or anything like that.
Everything stays nice and straight, okay?
So very much hit strain.
Don't put that away. That job's done now.
I think I did an overall pretty good job, right?
Overall the length is there looks good, but you can see these lower
hairs that are longer and that's what we're really attacking
Okay, whatever it looks off i'm gonna come a little bit closer just
so I can see because i'm farther away
But yeah, that's what we're gonna do.
We're gonna attack what i'm really trying to do is keep that same shape
And I don't care for it to be too perfect because my beard is curly.
So I want to leave a little bit so I can play with it, right?
I don't want to go too tight because then it's going to go too short.
But over here, so you can see I got those loose hairs
for this side where you can still see those loose hairs, right?
So I think that's good.
and the goal is so right here i was just touching
the bottom i wasn't going up here right because i
want to keep this length right
so i was just cutting right here and then here i was going
a little bit more in up here right
and then as i got back since this part's really short i came
more up here at an angle and then went down
so i catch these shorter longer hairs up here sure
make them shorter and then blend it into this line
that we created down here all right but then as
you come up here you don't go so much
into this part up here of your beard you're just staying
below the line because you want all this hair to reach there.
That makes sense. Hope that makes sense.
It's easier to show you in person compared to on camera,
but hope that makes sense.
That's kind of like the goal you're trying to go for.
Okay, so that looks good.
Now let's do this other side.
And the
biggest
thing
when
you're
doing
a shape
like
this
is making sure this area right here,
probably outside your mustache,
that area needs to be tight right here.
It needs to come in angled like this.
You don't want that bulky.
Unless your beard's bigger, then you adjust.
But for a beard around my length,
you want to make sure these areas come tucked like that.
And that's what gives this that pointy and angular look.
Good.
I'm going to go with these loose hairs.
There
you
go.
It's hard for me.
Compared to if I was just doing it without a camera
because I'd be a lot closer to the mirror
so I could actually see.
I wouldn't say get too close to the mirror, you know?
Like imagine this is your mirror.
Like don't be like this doing your beard
because then you get too hyper fixated on that one area.
I would say be about like pretty much arm's length.
You know, whatever your arm's length is,
make sure the mirror is there.
So that's what I would say about arm's length.
Something like this.
Where you're still close enough
to where you can see the overall shape of your beard,
but you can see the details.
Once you got it kind of down and one part's pissing you off,
then yeah, get super close, see it,
and then attack it like that.
So I'm gonna go change up real quick
And then we'll style it and then we'll
We'll be done.
Also, I doubt you guys even noticed.
while the beard straightener was warming up,
I put a little bit of my
Joseph Signature Line Beard Pencil in there
just to...
feeling those little lighter spots
because i like to make it super dark, not super dark, i like to
make my beard look all even so when i go
to shape it it makes it a lot easier to see the overall
shape compared to if you have patches it might throw off
your angle because you're like oh that
side looks higher that side looks lower
but really it just there's not enough hair there
so it kind of throws your eyes off
but yeah let me get changed up and then all right so we're
back now i'm just gonna style it
so you can put whatever your favorite beard balm is this
is Joseph English Line beard balm this is the vanilla mango scent
Fingernail amount, put it in your palm,
so good put about
really warm it up.
Keep going for about 10 seconds till it's nice and warm,
clear, and then kind of brush through your beard.
Really emphasize on this back part where your jaw is.
Make it nice and tight, come to the chin.
And whatever, you know, just kind of play with it.
That's why you leave a little bit extra length,
you don't want it too tight.
So, you know, if you want, you can move hairs around.
You want to push it in, push it in.
If you want to fluff it out, you can fluff it out.
But, bam, extra excess on my elbows.
What do you guys think
of that?
You know, it's pretty good, right?
So that's how you attack.
The Spartan Viking look.
Obviously, you could vary the lengths depending.
If you want a shorter beard, you just go shorter up here, tighter here.
If you want a longer beard, then you just drop
this longer and leave this even longer.
So you can really mess with it.
But yeah, hope you guys like that video.
Hope you guys learned something new.
Comment down below if there's anything new you learned
or anything you want me to explain more.
