As voters in Johannesburg ready for Wednesday's local elections,
basic services are top of their concerns.
South Africa's economic capital and largest city,
Johannesburg has seen nearly two weeks
of disruption to its water supply,
with severe outages and low pressure in parts of the city.
Electricity
and rubbish collection are also a problem.
For change. In most communities there's no water,
there's no electricity, people are struggling.
So we are definitely going to vote for change.
I'm hoping for more of the youth to be voting.
Yeah, that's what my hope is.
Local authorities say they're working to fix the problem,
which they blame on high consumption and leaks in an ageing system.
But for many voters, it's a sign that government isn't working.
Everything is collapsing, honestly.
So this government that we've been voting for,
it's been in power ever since.
But the country is deteriorating, it's going down on its knees.
So we have to do something about it.
On Wednesday voters will get the chance to do something about it.
The results which are due from Sunday are likely
to reinforce a growing trend towards coalitions
and test whether they can produce stable local councils.
