And in today's video we're going to be showing you guys how
to remove skirtings like these ones
for skirtings like these. So let's get started.
So our first job is to remove these skirtings and
the easiest way to do that is with a crowbar or a pry bar and a hammer.
So if we've got caulk along
the top we're going to run our Stanley,
cut that caulk, get our pry bar, sit on the top,
give it some taps with our hammer,
we're going to pry it off section at a time.
So we're gonna go around the rest of the room
and remove all of these skirtings.
Right, that's the existing skirtings all removed.
It's now time for us to cut our new lengths of skirting,
ready to take our LEDs.
And what they are, are these ordered from Skirting World.
And although they look like standard skirtings,
they're actually...
Slightly wider than you'd normally find,
and we've had a rebate put into the top
to take an LED track.
So we're gonna cut these all down to size
for the pieces that we need,
and we'll show you the next step.
So we have all of our skirtings cut to size,
but before we install them,
we need to cut recesses out of our skirting boards,
and that's to get our LED cables
Back to our drivers.
Right, what we've found is gonna be a lot easier
than recessing the back,
is to actually cut the skirtings short.
So if you come over,
The face of our skirting here,
if we just cut flush along that back edge on that mark,
that's gonna leave us a nice big space
to get our cables down,
and you won't see it when our track comes over.
So let's go and cut that and show you what I mean.
So as you can see, we've took this large section out,
but once the track's on,
this will still look like it continues round,
the face will still look good,
so you'll never know that underneath there's a big gap.
Right, so we're gonna cut the rest
and get ready to start running our LED cables into position.
right so our next step is what we've done
is we've actually created a little tiny hole for
our led wires to come out of we've actually run all
these in a corner where furniture are going
to be placed over so all the cables will be hidden
so there's one last step before installing your
skirtings and that's getting our cables running
and we're going to show you right now so what
I mean by running the cable in, so this LED is for this section here
So we need to get this cable back to our PowerPoint
in the corners.
So we're gonna place the cable in the corner already
until we've got the skirtings on
and we're gonna install the tracks after.
Right now we've got all our cable runs in.
We're gonna get these skirtings fixed,
ready to start putting our tracks on.
So let's get
these attached.
So now that we've fitted our skirtings,
the next step is to fit our LED track.
And what that is, it's an aluminium track
with a diffuser on the top.
So before we install these we're going to remove
the diffuser that sat on top and you just literally
pull the end of this,
try not to pull it too far that way because you'll kink it,
we're just pulling it towards an out
and all we want to be left with for now is the track itself.
So that's our two sections, we'll get rid of that for the time being
and the track should fit into our little rebate we have put in.
And if we come up to our wires we need to mark
and cut that little hole out to
allow those to go through. And we're just going to literally cut
that section out of the trap which I'll show you
don't worry. So we're going to be using some tin snips for this.
Chop down to our line and then we're going to chop.
cross our line as well and then once we
do that on both sides as you can see we've got a little
access hole for our cables to come through
so we're going to go around on every corner that
needs the access and do exactly the same thing right
and to attach the tracks we're just grabbing
a little bit of CT1 and doing some nice little dots every sort
of 10 inches or so and that'll
be enough to hold that track in place
and we're just going to sit it in there slide it along
So now that Phil's got all the complicated bits out of the way,
I'm going to do the simple straight cuts
and what I'm going to be using is a hacksaw blade
to cut through the aluminium.
Right and then it's just a simple case of sticking our pieces in.
So I'm going to get the rest of the aluminium tracks installed
and then I'll show you the next
step. Right your next step is to pull the double side tape off the LED
and we're going to start
running it in from each corner by just peeling it off
and sticking it flat in the track.
Just in case if you keep one bit in one hand
and slowly pull it off and stick it along
as you go.
Right, when it comes to finishing the LED,
obviously they'll be slightly a bit longer.
And how you cut it, there's copper lines
and you need to cut through the center of that
to get it perfect.
We're going to do this the whole way around the room.
And then we'll explain how to wire them.
So now that we've stuck all of our LEDs into the top of
our skirtings into those tracks it's time
to start wiring before we put the dim strip back over the
top because we want to test
that everything definitely works. So if you come in close
I'll show you that. So with the kit
that we've got from New Style Lights,
so shout out to those for supplying this,
we have got a four channel controller.
power supply and we've
also got the remote to switch them on and cycle through the colors so
with this particular kit we want to be taking off
the cap where the power supply comes in so we
remove this cap and then on that side there we've got
our input from our power supply and we've got
RGBW and plus so here's our cable here's some
strippers cable strippers and we just strip
Between 5 and 10 mil off at the end
and then we just pull these cables to separate them and then
what I like to do is just give these a little twist
to stop them fraying. So we've stripped
all of the cables that we need in each particular driver.
So for this setup we've got two drivers,
we've got one in each corner. So here we've got two lots.
So the R represents red, green for G.
B blue and the black goes into the positive
so we're going to get those fed in tighten down
with a screwdriver and then we'll plug it in and see what happens.
Right so once we've done that
we should have our reds in our R our greens in our G blues in B
and that black goes in the plus
for positive and then we can put
our guard back over making sure we don't trap any of the cables
And we tighten our two screws down.
What we're looking for is the cables to come through these little slots
and that helps them from getting pulled out they're like little clamps
and now we can plug them in and see if they work.
So now we're plugged in we're wired up we can hit
the on button on the control
and we've got power one last thing we need
to just cycle through all the colors
and make sure it's all uniform.
As you can see we're all good.
So that's that section tested. We're going to do the same on
the opposite side of the room
because we've got it split into two remember. And once it's tested
we can start installing those dim strips.
Right so now that we've done all our tests we're happy
that the LEDs are working.
It's now time to install our dim strips and how we do that we
peel the protective layer off and then they should clip straight in.
And you want them to clip right in
and just start from one end
and we're gonna work our way down that end
and then I'm gonna show you how to cut them.
All you have to do to cut these is use scissors or shears
and put it up to your plastic.
Lovely.
Let's give it a nice finish on that.
And then we're gonna be running it all the way up.
So we're gonna go around the rest of the room,
install the rest of the dim strips
and then we're gonna show you the final product.
Right, so that's the install complete.
Let's have a look at the results.
Wow, and we've got lights for every single mood.
So as you can see, we can scroll through.
Blues, greens, all pink.
Mashed potato, we made mashed potato.
Anyways, I want to do a big shout out to New Style Lights.
Thank you for supplying these.
And another thank you to Skirting World
for supplying and modifying these
to take these LED strips.
So they may be supplying them soon, who knows?
I hope you enjoyed this video.
We'll catch you in the next one.
