We have multiple major Calgary Flames updates
as there's a lot going on as we have entered
the 11th month of the year including
the hometown remix jersey reveal William Stromgren making his
season debut tonight as the Flames face the San Jose Sharks.
We're going to get to all that more
in this video but first I want to welcome you
to Flames Digest. I'm Mark Griffith. If you're new
around here and you love the Flames make sure you
subscribe so you can stay up to date on all the
latest news, updates, reports, and rumors revolving around
your Calgary Flames. We would love to
welcome you to the Flames Digest family
and we might as well start with the news that's going
crazy kind of across the entire NHL
and it is of course the hometown or hometown remix as I wrote
here.
I meant to say hometown.
Those have all been revealed for all 32 teams in the NHL.
And the Flames one, I would say it kind of ranks
in the top half for sure, maybe top 10, call me a homer.
But I would definitely say it's one of the better ones
in case you missed it, don't know what it looks like.
That's a very brief one,
and I'll show a closeup in a second here.
But it's funny, it's very red and gold,
not much black going on here or anything
like we recently saw with the 0-4 throwbacks,
and not much white either.
It's essentially all red and gold, but it is pretty cool.
So the Hometown Remix jersey designed to honor
the history, community, and fabric of our great city,
which is an excellent description.
And there's so many details to do with the Saddle Dome
since it's the last year in the Dome
that I will get into in just a little bit.
But first I'll pop up this closer up of the entire jersey.
So lots of details.
I know from afar, it just kind of looks red and gold
and almost hurts the eyes a little.
I don't know, personally, I like it.
But again, call me a homer.
And look at some of the other ones that were released,
like Montreal and stuff.
They're horrible.
But this one.
Very interesting.
It's not too similar to anything we've worn before,
but it's also not so far-fetched and outlandish
that it just totally isn't our colors or anything.
But it is pretty neat,
and there are a lot of cool details.
If you actually look at the detail of the C in the middle,
that is supposed to represent the roof of the dome,
which is pretty cool,
because at first I was like,
what the heck is that, like tools or something?
But once you get the description, it is pretty cool.
A couple more photos here of other things,
the sleeves and the bottom,
Again, the shape of the dome and some other things.
Some other stuff, which is really cool.
If we do get into kind of, I guess, the hidden details,
it is a full Saddledome tribute.
So the gold crest texture echoes the arena's ceiling,
as I just said.
The sleeve circles reference the windows on the side,
which are pretty cool.
So if we go back to the main one here,
as you can see, kind of up here.
There are those circles that go around that gold band
and those are supposed to represent
the windows of the dome.
There's also the hem stripes trace the roof line as we just saw. The
most, you know, iconic part of the saddle dome is the roof line,
of course, is the saddle. And
there you go. That's there.
And then the custom numbers echo the building's shutters as well.
So a lot of kind of cool, you know,
details added into our sweater because
For a lot of other teams, there isn't, you know,
these kind of cool notes of, well, I mean,
they all are supposed to.
It's the hometown remix that show their hometown.
But ours have a lot of detail,
especially since the last year of the Dome.
So when will we be wearing this?
The first time, the debut is very soon, actually,
in just a few days.
November 6th against Anaheim.
That'll be the first time we're wearing those.
Also November 8th against Philly, that Sunday nighter.
Also.
November 11th against the Rangers.
In December, we wear them on the 3rd, 5th, and 8th
against Buffalo, Washington, and Nashville, respectively.
And then they will also be seen in January
for three games against Columbus, San Jose,
and Los Angeles, respectively.
So again, we have, I would say,
definitely one of the better ones in the league.
I saw a post here.
I think it was from BarDown.
Saying, which Canadian team has the best hometown remixers?
And if you haven't seen them, please go take a look at all of them.
I honestly would say my top three, Calgary doesn't make it.
In no particular order,
I think the best three are Washington, Buffalo, and Seattle.
I know, I picked Seattle division opponent there.
But I think those are the best ones.
There are some really good ones across the league.
But in terms of the Canadian ones,
I would say we have the best one by far.
Again.
Those Montreal ones are terrible.
The Winnipeg ones, in my opinion,
are absolutely awful as well.
Edmonton and Vancouver were just boring, in my opinion.
Toronto's probably the second best
of the Canadian remixed jerseys.
I'm glad that this bar down post
almost has them ranked that way as well.
And Ottawa's is, I guess it's pretty cool.
It's just very similar to what they normally wear at home.
So I would say, you know, out of the Canadian ones,
Calgary wins that one for sure.
But please feel free to let me know which one you prefer.
Of the Canadian ones.
Across the NHL.
Which ones you think are the best.
And feel free to let me know your opinion on the Flames one.
If you hate it.
That's totally fine too.
Every opinion is valid.
When it comes to this kind of stuff.
Now let's get into tonight's game.
Because there's quite a bit to go over.
I wasn't able to record a video yesterday.
Had maybe a little bit too much fun on Halloween.
But it is another Flames game day.
8 p.m. is the start in San Jose.
So on the road here for a divisional matchup.
And the lineup is where, you know, the major updates come in.
As you can see there on the fourth line, we'll skip to that.
William Stromgren making his season debut tonight,
as I did say in the intro.
Lines looking very interesting.
So, Farabi, Backlund, and Coronado as the top line.
Sunyaev, Frost, and Sharkey as your second.
Strom with Pospisil and Gridden.
So, extremely, you know,
interesting to have Pospisil as your third line center.
Apparently, he's been playing great, though, lately.
I mean, I'm not going to argue with that,
but I wouldn't say he's been our best player lately.
And then Klapka and Castagna are on that fourth line with...
Billy, as they call William Stromgren.
Ball with Nemets, Middleton, Weigl, Perek, and Kuznetsov.
Probably our best D pairings when they're divided like that.
And then, of course, Wolff is your starter.
Cooley is still injured, of course.
And Sergeyev, unfortunately, didn't have,
you know, the worst outing against Colorado.
But it wasn't necessarily amazing either.
But Stromgren, as we can see here, will play tonight for the Flames.
Which is, again, great to hear.
Because he's having...
Awesome season with the Wranglers.
So this is his opportunity right now.
In the AHL this year, he has played 11 games.
He's got three goals, eight assists for 11 points.
So point per game.
He was second on the Wranglers in scoring at the recall.
He has three NHL appearances last season,
but no points because let's face it,
Huska played him for about two minutes
in each of those games.
And he is projected to play with Castagna
and Klapka on that fourth.
Line.
The other thing I've been doing lately
is taking a look at our all-time history
against our opponents.
So Flames Sharks, again,
maybe a little bit better
than I thought it would be.
But in 147 regular season games,
the Flames have 78 wins,
San Jose has 61,
and then we have eight ties in the playoffs.
We're actually 10 and 10.
Calgary won one of three series.
Does that make sense?
How do three series?
Wow, they must have all gone late.
I mean, the most you can play in three series
is 21 games.
We played 20.
I thought for sure it would have been worse as well.
But 0-4 is one of those.
That's the one we won.
And then combined, if you include the playoffs and regular season.
So 88 Calgary wins, 71 wins for San Jose and eight ties.
So we do hold, you know, the all-time.
record against them, which in my childhood,
San Jose was one of the best teams. So I thought for
sure it would be a little bit worse for us,
but I guess, you know, those early San Jose days
probably make that a little bit more interesting.
Recently as well, San Jose has not been great. I
know we haven't either, but in the last 10 meetings here,
so these are the most recent five,
we have quite a few wins. San Jose does have
One win in there, but the Flames have all the rest.
And if you go back to the previous five before that
to complete the last 10, once again,
we have most of the wins.
So we've really had San Jose's number lately.
I know San Jose has been one of, if not the worst team
in the league over the past few years,
but it's still great to know that we have kind of
had their number a little bit.
In terms of who's playing really well,
I mean, Ferraro, once again, he has been awesome lately.
He scored against Colorado.
So he has remained hot.
His numbers are looking really, really good.
The offensive catalyst for the Flames.
And I mean, I say this before every game
because I always have to make the graphic for it.
It's the Flames special teams that still are just caring.
The penalty kill has honestly been a little bit worse lately.
That has been a bet against teams
that have better power plays like Colorado and Edmonton.
I mean, look at the players that those teams have
on their power play lineups.
But our power play has still been great.
Still shooting up 33.3%, third in the league.
So hopefully we can get some power plays going.
What's shaking down as we head into tonight's game.
Now let's get into the comment of the day
to wrap up this video as we'd love to do here on the channel
comes from the most recent video, of course.
And this is a great one here from WD40th saying,
I can confirm Conroy has interest in Nikita Kucherov.
I'm not saying it's getting done,
but it's been mentioned with the new arena coming
and the Flames can get their superstar,
lock him up seven years, new arena,
and makes Calgary an even more destined location.
This team is too good to absolutely bottom out.
It's kind of hard when you have Wolf and Cooley doing so well.
And that's just, I chose it because that's a wild comment.
Yes, Nikita Kucherov is the talk of the NHL right now.
The Flames can afford him if they were to do it.
It would do interesting things for their rebuild.
Who the heck knows what we would have to give up,
you know, especially the Tampa Bay.
That's not a team you want to give anything good to
based off of our history.
But it is interesting.
I'm going to try my best not to make a video,
you know, completely surrounding Kucherov
unless, you know, talks really do ramp up.
But it is an interest.
Interesting talking point.
And I think all 31 other fan bases other than Tampa
are absolutely discussing talks of, you know, acquiring him.
So maybe we'll make a video on it.
We'll do some crazy mock trades.
But for now, it's more just wild than anything else to me.
Thank you so much for watching this video.
