Horror Hand: How Heidi Klum's Halloween Costume Came to Be

The trickiest part about pulling off this costume is wearing it. It's not light as a feather. Heidi Klum is dressing up as her own severed hand for Halloween this year. On Instagram, she's sharing glimpses of the costume's creation. And boy, oh boy, did Mike Marino and his entire team deliver. I love that in a world where so much isn't made by hand anymore, every vein, wrinkle and little detail of this costume was. A true labor of love, Klum wrote in one of her posts. Underneath the costume, Klum wore a support structure that held the creation in place. In addition, her face was elaborately made up with prosthetics. The 53-year-old spent about six hours in makeup for this. Special effects artist Mike Marino also shares his thoughts in a behind-the-scenes video. We did have a 3D scan of her hands, so we copied tendons, veins, lines, marks, nail bed shape, the nails, the length. Her thumb ring is hers, her wedding band, her engagement ring is hers, as much as we could and fit it around Heidi.
