Here in Texas, one of the major Republican strongholds,
Democrats haven't won any state-run election in more than 30 years.
But there are signs that things may be starting to shift.
In Austin, a university city at the heart
of conservative Texas, some younger voters
are voicing their frustration
I would say right now is definitely just
and could help reshape
the exhaustion with what we've seen from our
leadership like Greg Abbott just never seeing any changes
the political landscape.
or at least changes that I want to see
in Texas. So really just the exhaustion
of like not having our voices heard,
not feeling like our academics are protected,
that minority people are protected.
It's starting to see the importance of voting
and why we need to get out especially having like
our like African-American studies being stripped
from us and like having like
Our space is for minority students being taken away.
I think there is quite a strong reaction to the current administration
Thank you very much.
and we are seeing, like I said, the effects of that pretty immediately.
So I do think that the youth are kind of pushing in that direction.
The young Republicans are saying, I'm tired of this.
I don't want what Trump's doing anymore, especially a big election.
I think we've seen a lot of young Latino turnout.
when a lot of them did not turn out in 2024
so there's maybe a shift in the air.
I am hopeful that we can turn from red to blue
but you can see the change happen election after
election right you can see how it's grown over
the years in the last few I would say decade or so.
In 2022, at the last midterm elections,
only 22% of Texans aged 18 to 29 turned out to vote,
a figure that highlights one of the Democrats' major challenges,
getting young voters.
