James Kaufman, World News Report, today.
We have an update on Comet SWAN-25B
that was just discovered a few days ago.
Not to be confused with Comet SWAN-25F,
which was destroyed when it went into our sun.
Now, the SWAN part comes from the camera on SOHO,
which was used to discover both of these comets.
The camera's name actually has two N's in it, but...
These comets are just named S-W-A-N,
and then their designation, this one being 25B.
The other one being 25F.
I know, very confusing, right?
Now, this is not Comet 3I
Atlas 25N1 either, or C25N1.
This comet might have been knocked loose
from the asteroid belt as Comet Atlas went through that belt.
Which would in fact make perfect sense
because no one saw the comet before it supposedly went
behind the sun only after it came from behind the sun.
Which means it could have originated
from behind the sun within our solar system.
I.e. the bumper pool I talked about with a 12
mile wide,
12 mile in diameter comet 3I Atlas or comet
C-25N1, the same exact comet.
This has nothing but old-fashioned comet written all over it.
After emerging from hiding behind the sun on September 11th,
just three days ago,
Comet SWAN-25B is rapidly brightening multiple
southern hemisphere observers on September 13th.
say that it was near magnitude plus six,
which is about three times brighter than it was the day
before. Joe Riemann and Michael Yeager took this picture of the comet.
Comet has a green
atmosphere and a long blue ion tail.
They say that the tail is so long currently because of the solar
winds being emitted from our star.
The colors are signs of C2.
And CO plus carbon dioxide green and carbon oxide plus
blue compounds commonly found in solar system comets.
The comet's orbit is still being determined.
Initial astronomy suggests that it's already passed through perihelion,
its closest approach to our sun.
Next, it might make a very close approach
to Earth at 0.25 AU in October.
I wouldn't call that a very close approach,
and I don't think we'll be able to see it with the naked eye.
But time will tell.
This weekend you can find Comet SWAN-25B in the constellation of Virgo,
not far from Mars and Spica.
It's still close to the Sun,
so be prepared to catch it near the horizon at sunset.
Up-to-date coordinates can be found at the Minor Planet Center.
God bless, folks.
Could be a little bumper pool at play.
This might not be the last comet that just all of a sudden appears.
Please share, subscribe, and always remember,
anything's possible, bizarro world.
