Good morning, guys. Welcome to today's video.
Today is Saturday. It feels like Sunday to me,
but it is Saturday. Today,
we are saying goodbye to Sam's beloved tractor. You guys know he bought
this two years ago, I think, and I don't know why he bought it.
He says it's too big for this
small property, so he sold it, and today it's leaving.
Hi, Anya. What you doing? It is a glorious,
Yes, glorious day outside.
Freezing though, freezing.
But when the sun is up it makes everything feel better.
Look at that tree. I don't know if you
guys can see it. It's like glowing in the sun
and it's the last one on this property to lose its
leaves and it's a mess.
But welcome to today's video and let's see what we get up to today on
the farm. I really want to ride Penny. Yesterday I asked Gabby
If I ride Penny, will you ride Storm,
we'll just like walk around the yard, just walking.
I'd like to even ride her bareback to be honest,
but Gabby said no and I gotta tell you guys
a story about Storm, something I haven't told you before.
How are you still wearing shorts?
Nice actually.
Cold.
Wow, what do you think about
your new sleeping bag Posy Pig, did you like it?
She's so pushy.
You just literally.
She literally just pushes the door open instead of going to her bowl.
Like why do you not just go
to your bowl? There you go. Looks like they liked it.
Probably kept them warm. This is where Sam and
I have our first date of the day.
When you both work from home. Wow that was kind of messy. When
you both work from home this is where you have
your dates where you meet up. Yeah. All right so
look at this feeder. Completely empty.
There's not even like there's not even a single drop of
Minerals in there. This is the mineral feeder.
Look at that. Not a drop of minerals
I filled this thing yesterday with two different types of minerals
I put the grain in then I put I put minerals on top right there.
That's better
I put like quite a bit of minerals on top
I top dress it and then I fill that thing up every day too
And what's crazy is that our goats
eat every single drop of the minerals
I use minerals that are for goats,
and then I also, twice a week, I give them kelp.
I don't even know what it's called,
but it's like a seaweed mix for goats.
And they devour them.
The crazy thing is that goats don't eat
minerals unless they need the minerals.
So they, and they know, like they listen to their body,
and they know what they need.
I feel like I'm part goat.
I can tell instantly if something's good for me
or if it's not and when I'm craving something
I always listen to my body.
Like no matter what it is I always can tell like if I start craving
something my body sends this like crazy signal
to my brain like oh you need this.
I swear it's how I stay healthy because I'm 57
and I don't take any medication.
I don't have any problems. My heart is good. I don't have diabetes.
Everything is good but let me tell you I
am flying through these minerals. I wish
there was like a mineral that we could take.
Actually there is and I use it. The
mineral that they have for adults is sea salt.
You have to get a good quality sea salt.
That's the towel I was gonna use.
That's gross. You gotta like really clean these buckets.
Is this the goose bucket?
No. The goose uses it.
The goat's stuck in the feeder there.
Is she stuck in the feeder?
I don't know.
There you go.
Sometimes I like to clean the buckets
because I know I do a better job.
I just think that's not the right spot.
Not the right spot for babies.
Oh my gosh.
I have to move that thing because of how they jump out.
Look at little Tipper.
She says move these guys first and then I'll jump.
Here, open that gate.
Yep.
No. Oh, shoot.
Lola. Don't let Lola out there
because she'll eat too much.
Lola is getting...
Really in her old age.
Come here, Lola.
Listen, Lola.
Sophia saw you acting like this.
She would be so upset with you.
Come on, I'm giving you grain over here.
Come on.
There you go.
There you go.
Eat your grain.
She's a chunky one.
So she has two months, a little over two months left.
How many babies do you think she's going to have?
She had...
She had two, she had three, then four,
God only knows how many she'll have this year.
So here is a story about Storm.
Hi baby, hi cute baby,
you're so cute, you're so cute,
you are so cute.
She's like, yeah scratch me there, you like it?
You're so cute.
So here's a story about Storm.
Gabby wants to ride him.
She doesn't want to like race him, jump him, nothing exciting. She just
wants to go on a trail ride or two with Sophie.
He doesn't want to be ridden. So I told you guys
this story a long time ago about how, what are you doing?
He tries to eat the cord. So I told
you guys this story about how Sophie took Storm to go to a lesson
and we drove out to somebody
else's farm and we had a lesson in their riding arena.
It was a couple of years ago and
We got there and Storm walked off the trailer
and he went into this panic mode and he's so stoic
all the time but he he has this way
of communicating what's in his heart so clearly
and he got off that trailer and he looked around
and he looked into my soul.
And he and I could tell he was saying like please tell me I'm
not here to stay like please tell me you're not moving me again
or selling me or whatever like we've moved our horses
from a few barns whenever we've moved we've moved them closer to us
and it very clearly is hard on horses to have to
Settle in to another herd.
Maybe people think it's not but he's a fighter.
He would protect the people. He loves. Oh gosh
He'll protect the people. He loves the animals.
He loves to the death like and he didn't want to do that
Winston! He did not want to do that again, and I said,
Storm, it's okay. You're just riding. You're
coming home with us. It's okay. You're just riding.
I don't know if he understood that or if he figured
it out, but he was much better.
He was okay, and we put him back on the trailer after her ride,
and we went home. Well, not long ago,
so Gabby started tacking him up, and he had the exact same
expression and the exact like he lost
his mind like he whipped his head around looked at the
saddle turned his head around like
so fast looked me in my soul again and was like I don't want to
do this and I know sometimes people think
that horses were meant to be ridden. I think that
horses are just like people and sometimes they
enjoy being ridden and sometimes they don't and
he clearly is done with that.
He doesn't he he I don't think he even ever wanted that to be honest.
But he did what he could for Gabby because he loved her so much.
But I know in my heart that he does not want to be ridden anymore.
He's done with that.
He's 20 years old.
He settled in his life.
He loves his herd.
He loves his girls.
He loves his home.
And he doesn't want any of the huge stresses that...
A younger horse might handle, and I know there are lots of 20,
30 year old horses that handle all that life throws at them
with no problems at all, but he has never been that kind of a horse.
He's not that kind of a horse.
He did the same thing one time when Gabby got mad at him.
He whipped his head around and looked at me like shocked that Gabby
was, like he didn't understand why Gabby was mad at him, but anyways.
He is very expressive, and he is very clearly expressed to us.
He does not want to be ridden, so I want Gabby to ride with me today.
Like, I want to jump on Penny and just walk around on her, and
I want her to ride Storm
and us to just walk around the field for a few minutes, and
she said no because Storm doesn't want it. He just doesn't want it.
So if I'm gonna ride, it'll just be me. Maybe Sophie.
Oh my goodness.
That's the story of Storm.
It's so beautiful to be able to understand him.
What? She did not let me do her feet yesterday.
One toe I got.
I dare anybody to be cold with this big, huge furnace on them.
No wonder people wear fur coats, though. Like, she is cozy.
Mwah!
So cozy, Gem Gem. She's a gem. That's why I named her Gemma.
I didn't even know she was going to be such a gem. You're such a gem.
Her mom was exactly like this and now she's not a gem.
Her mom was exactly like this as a baby.
Even worse she couldn't get away from her. She would jump on your head
anywhere she could get to be on top of you.
And now she's not like that.
So we'll see how this girl progresses as she gets those hormones.
Well hello. You all just waiting here for me.
You guys on the porch for me.
Like imagine if the goats had access to the house.
Everybody's just here.
Cats, we got chickens.
So today, I saw a chicken come from over here
and it made me
suspicious.
Freaks me out because I'm afraid of,
I'm afraid of snakes.
But you guys, I honestly think
that there's something under here,
like a spot that they're laying eggs.
I actually wanna crawl right under here,
but I'm literally way too much
of a chicken.
I swear though.
Something's under here and I just, I just know it.
Look for eggs for me. Find me some eggs,
kitty. I know that there are eggs somewhere on this property,
like for sure. Fortunately,
I'm just not meant to find them.
Do you guys think these pumpkins have gone bad?
Yep. Shoot, we could have gave them to my friend's cows
or we could have gave them
to the pigs and the goats, but we have one left.
Do the seeds and then we're gonna...
give it to the animals.
We are headed out for dinner because it is Halloween. The girls don't
celebrate anymore. So we like to do fun things as a family.
So we're gonna head out and go out
for dinner. All right we are here. This is our nice table.
Look at this bowl. I love it. I want
a bowl like that. Okay wait are the shareables appetizers?
Shareables are appetizers. All right
Alright, first time trying alligator.
I've had it before. I've had it before.
Dad cooked it for me on one of our first dates.
Oh, that was sharp.
Mmm.
Someone did that for a first date. I haven't even walked in.
Sure. It was good.
Was it good? Tastes like chicken.
What is this?
I don't know.
So we start with avocado, of course.
And this is guacamole.
We bring in house, but we modify it either way.
It gets a little more bang for the buck.
Pico de gallo. Beak of the rooster.
First translation for pointless information,
fire-roasted Ontario corn, yeah, I'll stop
at certain things, cilantro, everybody in a bowl,
red onion, just so you know, cotija cheese,
it's Mexican, feta's Mexican cousin,
I just do a little bit of salt, you can always put
more in, now, a jalapeno relish, very spicy,
maybe half, no, I'll tell you what, it's to
your discretion.
Yeah, sure.
It's delicious. We make it in-house.
And fresh Florida lime to give it that much-needed acidity.
It's got a bit of a bite to it.
And then we finish
it with a little
tahini.
It's dried chilies and lime.
It's not spicy at all, just a little...
How you doing?
Fresh-made guacamole, made fresh right at the table.
It is yummy.
Gabby got wings. Sophie got wings.
Oh, those are chicken strips?
We ended up doing some Christmas shopping and we're late home and it's
terrifying. It's terrifying because
when the chickens go in late and the doors
left open, we put them to bed before dark usually.
Raccoons can get in there.
Everybody good? Yeah. Phew! Good job.
I put all the stuff inside quick and ran out
because they're not safe until
that door is closed.
But they're good chickens.
Now the other really scary thing
is that I'm walking with my running shoes,
my sneakers through the grass where the dogs poop within the dark.
So I don't know if there's dog poop stepping
in dog poop but you know what?
Sometimes you gotta have time out.
Like we try and always be home at chore time
and sometimes you just sometimes you're just late.
Sometimes.
I looked over I saw a light.
I'm like what the heck is that?
It's Sophie.
I like doing chores better in the morning when it's dark than at night.
His collar reflects.
His collar reflects?
Look at Niko.
I don't see him.
Dash out, come here.
Do you guys, oh, I saw it.
I see it.
Nope, I don't think I see it.
Look, it's like glowing white it looks.
You guys see it?
That's Niko right there.
Way over there.
In person, not through the camera.
Nope, don't see it.
Why is she sitting there?
I've never seen her there before.
I've never seen her there before either.
You good?
She looks like a ragamuffin because she is molting.
Are you hurt?
Pick her up, Sophie.
I mean she doesn't look hurt.
She might just be.
We'll put this away.
Imagine if she's dead tomorrow.
I don't like that.
Is she okay?
She's the only chicken I like.
You okay, princess?
What's the matter with you?
She looks like she's dying because her hair is all falling out.
Are you happy, Jeannie Moore? Look at how cute she is.
She's old you guys. She might sleep there
because it's warmer. All right well I'm picking her up.
I picked her up. She's good. She's
definitely not injured but you guys know that feeling
when you're late and it's dark out.
I don't know it's just like uh it makes you nervous.
It just makes you when anytime
Anytime you go off schedule, anything can happen to your pets.
Oh, she's like, wait.
Let's give her some more food.
She's like, just wait, I'm here.
And by late, I mean it's 7 p.m.
It's not even that late.
She's having her dinner now.
This is her dinner spot, and you can tell.
This is how messy chickens are.
In fact, the goats do it, too.
They go in there, and they make a mess.
But we try and keep it nice and private for her.
But she...
Makes big messes, and she's doing fine.
I was worried, though.
When I walked in the door, I heard Sophie say,
Oh why are you laying there?
And then I started to panic.
I stopped because I didn't want to see what she was seeing.
Yeah, today I was talking to this goat.
I was cuddling up with her, and I was saying,
Don't you remember how you used to love me
and come up to me all the time?
I was scratching her and I said, you never come up to me anymore.
And I swear, she was probably thinking, well, I have twins.
I'm trying to wean them and they don't leave me alone.
And I said to her, I'm sure you're overwhelmed
and you're going to have babies again.
I swear, her eyes bulged out of her head.
She was like, what?
