Xaviaer DuRousseau explains how setting out to debunk PragerU ultimately challenged his own political beliefs.
Speaking at CPAC 2026, DuRousseau describes growing up in a liberal household, becoming a BLM activist, and planning a video series aimed at dismantling PragerU’s arguments. Instead, he says researching those arguments forced him to reconsider what he had believed and ultimately inspired him to dedicate his career to combating what he views as political propaganda.
CPAC hosts incredible guests and speakers including Ben Shapiro, Michael Knowles of the Daily Wire, the late Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA, Steve Bannon of War Room, Donald Trump Jr., Vivek Ramaswamy, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, Dan Bongino, and many more leading voices in conservative media and politics.
Good, how you doing?
So, the media sucks, we can agree with that, right?
Sorry, guys.
And part of the reason why all those Gen Z
or young people in your lives
are no longer getting their news
from George Stephanopoulos or Jake Tapper,
not that they were ever getting news from them in the first place,
but the reason why they don't go
to cable news and broadcast news anymore
is pretty much because of these guys and what they've been able to do.
And we're going to spend some time exploring that.
First, guys, the title of the panel, which is kind of funny,
The president will sue you now.
That's because the media lied about Donald Trump.
We know that, right?
But Donald Trump did something that no other politician has done.
He sued ABC News and George Stephanopoulos and won a settlement.
He sued CBS News in 60 Minutes and won a settlement.
And he's now threatening like a billion-dollar lawsuit against the BBC,
and we'll see how that goes.
Guys, and I'll start with you, Alex.
How important is it that Donald Trump is leading
the way in demonstrating that we don't have
to take being lied about anymore, we can fight back?
Yeah, one of the biggest things about Donald Trump is,
despite being one of our oldest presidents,
he is very social media savvy.
So if you remember back in 2016 and even before 2015,
he went viral all the time for his tweets
and he's well known for his tweets.
So taking that same energy to holding the media accountable,
not only calling them out online,
but then taking them to court and winning.
Like one of the best examples is when you mentioned the BBC is,
they lied about January 6th.
They said that, uh, he said, oh, uh, they're going to the Capitol
or whatever, and they spliced together something
that he never even said, and they cut out, like,
the peacefully and patriotically and everything,
and I think they just spliced, like, fight or something like that.
And it was completely BS.
They made it look like he led a mob to the Capitol that day.
Exactly, exactly.
Yeah, and he held them accountable by taking them to court.
And now George Stephanopoulos and CBS,
all of these media entities are finally being called out on their BS.
And it's largely because of social media.
Because we don't have to listen to them on TV,
and they get to basically have the final word on everything.
We now have audiences of ourselves, they go viral,
and then they get humiliated themselves.
Well, and Xavier, Xavier does work with PragerU, right?
Who is, and PragerU wouldn't exist if the media didn't lie
so much in the first place, right?
That's sort of why Dennis started this thing.
Yes, you know, Dennis Prager is a huge hero to me.
And, you know, he's really the OG.
of knowing that the media is going to lie to us
and trying and doing everything that he could
to get the truth out there.
And now with PragerU, we're continuing his legacy. And, you know,
shout out to the CEO, Marissa Streit.
She's always saying that education is how we got in this mess.
So education is how we're going to get out of this mess.
And my entire story is a testimony
and proof that the PragerU system works.
And I'm so embarrassed to say this.
If we were doing CPAC six years ago,
Xavier would not be here.
He'd be outside with the BLM protesters screaming at us. I kid you not.
Yes, the allegations are true.
I grew up in a very...
I was in a liberal household.
I have a lot of Marxists in my family.
And I was a BLM activist long before it was even popular.
And trust me, I know it was the most
ghetto mess I ever participated in.
And I sought out to become this big left-wing political activist.
And I was going to make an entire
series where I debunked PragerU videos.
And what I did instead is I debunked myself on accident.
Amazing.
And as I dismantled the entire narrative
that I was indoctrinated with my entire life,
I then decided I was going to dedicate my life
to combating propaganda just like Dennis Prager.
