Sejong the Great was the fourth king of Korea’s Joseon dynasty and ruled from 1418 to 1450. His reign became closely associated with advances in scholarship, science, agriculture, astronomy, music, and government. Sejong supported scholars and institutions that worked to improve the administration of the kingdom and encouraged the development of practical knowledge that could benefit ordinary people. His reign is therefore remembered as an important period of cultural and intellectual development in Joseon Korea.
