Despite a late surge, the team suffered from a \"gutless\" performance, poor red-zone efficiency, and a failing run defense. While some individual players showed promise, the speaker concludes the team is currently unfit for a playoff run and remains in a bumpy rebuilding phase.
Well, we had a chance.
We had a chance to write that narrative a different way.
Win a game you're supposed to win, and you don't.
I mean, I don't...
Look, I'm choosing today to not look at any positives from this game
other than one player in particular, and he's on my headlines here.
You can probably guess which one it is.
I do not care that we scored 21 in the fourth.
I was getting excited that maybe we could steal it,
but when you're down the famous 28-3,
you come out with just a gutless effort
a nothing performance the offense can't convert
short yardage situations the defense can't
the defense can't stop a nosebleed and you're getting
cooked by Puka Nacua and nobody else five yards
of a pop every time they hand the ball off and
you lose four straight games you now lost your ability
for me to take you seriously um we thought
going into the season that we were going
to be a bad team that could be competitive and we were
tricked after winning the first three games
into thinking that maybe we could be something more
than that and i'm here to tell you that's
not the case if you expect um Geno Smith to beat us
tomorrow and have a revenge game i think
that would be the wise the wise bet to make and uh
we have a lot to discuss and i'm going to go down
the line here of all the people who are to blame
for this and then to try to match it with a little bit of perspective
because we got a lot to talk
about and well look we're just not there yet it
was fun to think for a little that we are there
but we're just not and one day i think we
are going to be with a lot of the pieces that we
have here on the staff and with the team
but for right now we're just not there yet and if you want
to flood the comments with the i told you
so be my guest i choose positivity it doesn't work out
Now we fall back down to the realism world.
The Raiders are on a three-game losing streak,
but it's the weirdest three-game losing streak I've ever seen
because with each loss, I guess except for the Patriots' loss,
my confidence seems to be growing in their ability to compete
with the best of the best, even though they keep losing the games.
I mean, they lost to the Chiefs and the Bills by a combined six points.
And the fact that it's still sitting at a 66% chance
for the Rams to win this game on Calshi
is wild to me I think there is some extreme value
in purchasing the yes contract for the Raiders
if you put 25 on that if the Raiders win
outright it's $70 payout 26 cents obviously you
have different point spreads here you can go down
to if you're more comfortable
with that anytime touchdown first TD I like the Raiders in this
game Davante Adams is out six to ten weeks we're scoring 30 points
per game and we can't even run
the football yet imagine what we're going to be able to look like
when we start playing up to our
full potential now if you are interested
in checking out Kalshi you can use code all aboard
to instantly get 25 when you trade 25
and the reason why Kalshi is so unique and different
and why I prefer it over your traditional sports book
is because unlike your traditional sports
book where you're betting against the house
on Kalshi you are trading purchasing yes or no
contracts with the market that's set with peer-to-peer trading
and you can trade on anything
you want sports media movies politics you name it Kalshi has it yeah
so we typically do we'll go
instant game reaction we'll look at the box score
which is completely irrelevant and then i'm just
going to go down my game notes
and then just just set people ablaze here um none of this matters to
again besides this man right here
and maybe this man right here uh the team stats are completely
irrelevant the first half of this game was what
this game was it was good effort and i don't i
don't want to be misconstrued
and say that i don't think that the effort wasn't there in the second
half it was there but i'm gonna tell you where
the game is lost right here right here third down
three for 14 is horrific two for five
on fourth down imagine if you convert two more of those
Then you have a game to talk about
6 for 64 not bad
We actually won the turnover battle
Which is the only reason this is even relatively close
But time of possession we were horrific in
Because again in the red zone
They're 5 for 5 and we're 1 for 5
And we can't run the football
48 yards rushing
I know we got down early
But holy ----
Another game and I know Ashton was awesome
Receiving
Toward the end of the game when nothing mattered
But another game where he's 8 for 15
1.9 man
A fourth round rookie
Is averaging 4.5
Making things happen
Every time Mike Washington touches the football
I'm done with the excuses
Brock did his thing
Ashton did his thing over the air
Michael Mayer was okay
Jalen Hailor is a gigantic waste of space and money
And we'll get to Trey Tucker
When we get to Trey Tucker
Defensively
Kobe Dean had a nice play on a kind of a lucky interception
Jeremy Chin forced a fumble
J.J. Biggs, or no, sorry, J.J. Biggs forced the fumble
Tonka, I thought he was pretty impactful
He was in the backfield a lot, one sack
And then Max Crosby, sackless
Multiple meanings to that
Defense is booty.
Defense is straight booty.
Now, again, I don't want you to be misconstrued.
It's not about the effort.
The effort in the second half was there, and they forced fumbles
But in terms of personnel and ability, they're booty.
They stink.
They can't stop the run.
And if you can't stop the run,
you need to get lucky with a Matthew Stafford sideways pass
that bounces off Cody Parkinson's hands, who,
by the way, was like Rocky Balboa out there
coming into the game with one leg.
And look, the Stukes' play at the end of the game was not his fault.
He couldn't see anything because his face mask was getting grabbed,
and maybe that would have made the game even a little bit closer.
But we have some good players on defense,
but it's a lot of young players,
and it's a lot of Robbie Leonard not knowing what's going on.
We'll get to the coaching staff in a little bit.
I'm just going down my notes here.
Special teams was pretty good today.
I know Matt Gay missed a field goal, but that's going to happen.
I appreciated the wrinkle on special teams
where they only had Dylan Loughby back there,
so they had to kick it to him,
and he was pretty good running the ball back.
No more tush-push.
Thank God.
We did a normal quarterback sneak, and nothing bad happened.
Sean McVay versus Robbie Leonard was the matchup
that we should have known from the beginning.
We should have talked about that more.
I don't know what this means.
I don't know if this means that Kubiak's calling the wrong plays,
But in the beginning of the game
And I think I'm going to do a film session here
Coming up, we're going to bring that back
In the beginning of the game
I mean this is kind of more of my instant reaction
In the beginning of the game
We ran multiple play actions
I think they were both to Michael Washington
That if handed off
Would have gone for like 10 yards
Like there were huge holes
I know it's like pass pro
Instead of run pro, but there were huge holes
That if he would have just been handed the ball
Which I know is just not how it works
he would have like been gone
so i i don't know if it's like the defense calling an audible to get
out of the right play and and they knew it wasn't going to be a run
so they dropped everybody back
but i thought that was just weird
but look robbie leonard specifically or he's not going to get
fired i'm not i'm not ready to give up on him the guys are playing hard
but he's just not there yet
and Sean McVay we talked a lot
and and i maybe mistakenly compared this game to the Jeff Saturday
game, or to the Mariota Commanders game,
or to the Tyson Becht Bears game. Sean McVay and
Matthew Stafford can be competitive
and be really good against any team in the league with just them
out there. And they got Puka and Kyron Williams.
This isn't exactly the Jeff Saturday game.
And Robbie Leonard's a first-time DC, and he looks like it.
When he's going up against somebody like
Sean McVay, I mean, he's going to look horrific,
and they looked horrific today. Defense, again,
in the second half was good. I don't care.
If you go down 28-3, it's not easy to win those games.
I would imagine the people down 28-3 historically,
save for the greatest quarterback ever,
have a hard time coming back.
And the offense wasn't great either.
But holy moly, the defense was bad.
Like, horrifically bad.
I don't want to keep harping on the Max Crosby thing,
but this revenge tour is put to bed.
He is a non-factor out there.
He's just jumping on piles and doing nothing.
He's doing nothing.
And he's been on teams with worse lines than this
to be able to generate pressure.
And he's just doing nothing.
There's some obvious passing downs, and he's not making an impact.
I think trading Stukes was good again,
and there are some bright spots here.
It's just I'm letting the frustration take over me right now
because it was just nice for a little bit
to think that this could have been something,
and you lose two close games to the Bills
and the Chiefs that really make you think,
okay, well, this is a game you should win.
And now I'm expecting us to lose next week to Gina Smith and the Jets,
who just lost to the Dolphins.
Maybe you win this game and get back on track
To be 4-4 but I'm going to tell you right now
I'm done with Kirk Cousins
I'm done with him
It's not really his fault
But he's limited
Physically and athletically he is limited
And I just want to put this out there
I'm not ready to bench
Kirk Cousins because of his bad football
Okay
He's been pretty good
I think we can all agree that he's been better
Than we thought he was going to be
And his stats are going to be his stats
like he comes he fights back
and he puts up some numbers in my personal opinion at this point i
think Fernando Mendoza would give us the better chance to win
and the reason i say that is because
at halftime you have six points it doesn't get any worse than how
our offense looked in the first
half of this game it gets no worse
and if you just cannot run the ball okay you cannot run the ball
you need to be able to pick up yards in a different way
and Trey Tucker is very good and
Brock Bowers is very good.
Great.
Incredible.
But if they take these two guys away,
you have nobody else to throw to that can separate.
Michael Mayer is a possession guy.
Ashton Gentry is a running back.
And there were a few times in this game
where Kirk Cousins stepped up in the pocket.
And if he had the ability of Fernando Mendoza,
he would have picked up 15 to 20 yards.
But he can't because he's Kirk Cousins.
And I wrote in my notes,
Kirk Cousins' brain is not elevating the people around him to
justify having Fernando Mendoza not be in the game
to use his athleticism to elevate those around
him. Because in the red zone,
Fernando Mendoza could scramble for some touchdowns. I truly believe
that if Fernando Mendoza played in this game,
we would have had more first downs and more points
than if Kirk Cousins played this game.
I feel really bad saying that because I think it's
coming off like I want to bench Kirk Cousins for his negative play.
He's been fine. He's been good
to great at times. And he's finally got a little bit
of a rapport with Trey Tucker. And I know
they're probably not going to start Fernando Mendoza
in New York on the road against Aaron
Glenn. But he's got to play.
We know what this team is, I think, at this point. We're more than
a quarter of the way into the season.
We're a team that could be a pain in the butt, but right now is
not ready to compete for a playoff spot.
Six to seven wins is probably where we land, which is
what most of us thought eight or nine if you're lucky
and you weren't lucky in the Chiefs game
or the Bills game I personally think Fernando Mendoza just gives us
a better chance to win at
this point the only reason Kirk Cousins is in there
is for his ability to diagnose a defense
and pick apart the defense
and score points more consistently than Fernando and in this game he
just didn't do it and it just wasn't there
and we needed some spark and if you want to salvage
this season, if you're serious about trying to win games,
I think Mendoza is the answer for all
those run game deficiencies and red zone deficiencies.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe you should
consider subscribing because we are under 200 away from 17,000
and about 50% of you that are
watching are not subscribed.
So if you do then cure some of my ailments, mental ailments watching
this team, that'd be much appreciated.
I believe in this staff. I think this is a good young staff
that's proven that they can motivate men.
Clint Kubiak has proven to be able to scheme up people open
and call decent plays.
And Robbie Leonard has been able to motivate them
to get to the quarterback at a decent clip
and force a decent amount of turnover.
But schematically, they're just not there yet.
And they're getting outcoached, but that's okay.
We don't need heads to roll.
We need to stay the course.
we need to understand that this is
a team that had the first pick in the draft
last year and it's a
first time coach, a first time coordinator
and we're competitive in a lot
of these games and even in this game where we were competitive
in the first half, they fought back
and I think this is, this coaching staff
has shown that with better
personnel they can really be
a good coaching staff and as much as
I'm dunking on Robbie Leonard for getting out-schemed by Sean McVay
almost everybody in the league does
and it's a first time coordinator
and the way you learn
if you have the right guys in the building
is to be able to learn
from this, is to be able to, the next time we play
Sean McVay, it looks different, the next time
we play Kyle Shanahan who runs a similar offense
we're able to go to this memory
bank play and say, okay, well this
is what happened against the Rams, so this is what's going
to happen against
49ers, blah blah blah, but for right now
I think this losing streak is going to continue because
of our youth and inexperience
and it's
unfortunate, but I do think
that's the writing on the wall
but the way to counteract that youth and inexperience is to prove
that you're getting better is to make plays every
single time you're out there and Trey Tucker again
um I think it's in my ticker here about five for 103
and a touchdown continues to prove why you
know this Raiders wide receiver room
when people were talking about it they didn't talk enough
about Trey Tucker on pace for over
a thousand yards over eight touchdowns continuing to make
plays and living up to um what Clint Kubiak said
that he's the most conditioned athlete he's ever
seen he's ever been around excuse me
and uh i'm really proud of the development of Trey Tucker
and i do hope we extend him
but i wonder if he could even be more unlocked again with Fernando
Mendoza in the game because if they know we have to pass
and they can just casino blitz we just
have no chance and there are so many teams that have a better chance
because they have a quarterback
you don't even have to be Josh Allen even just
just Jordan Love can scramble Baker Mayfield can
scramble. And at a certain point,
you have to sit down here and evaluate this whole team.
We can't run the football with Ashton Janty.
I don't know what it is. We'll watch the film.
The film watchers tell me.
We cannot convert on these third and fourth and smalls and shorts.
And it's killing us. And Trey Tucker is making
an impact with a quarterback who is immobile and who
doesn't have as strong of an arm as the guy on the bench
who you spent your first pick on.
And I'm sure Kubiak's going to say, Kirk's our guy, Kirk's our guy.
He's running the offense, blah, blah, blah.
I just think personally the best chance to win is Fernando Mendoza.
I'm proud of the effort, but the defense is just not there.
And the offense, especially in the running game, is just not there yet.
And there are going to be some bumps in the road
to rebuild this thing back to the top.
But we were never winning the Super Bowl this year.
And now it looks like the team that we all thought we
were going to be coming into the season is the team we are.
a team that's overall not that good
but that can be a pain in the butt on any given quarter any
given Sunday, Thursday or Monday, um I'm not going
to sit around here with the Kubiak press he takes
way too long to get here so I think that's going
to be it for me, um I'm going to have some shout
