Governor Newsom deploying more than 130 election law attorneys around
the state all part of a way
to monitor the state's congressional battleground districts.
The governor says that move is to
prevent interference by the Trump administration
and to monitor vote counting and to protect the
will of the voters here in California.
All this comes after the U.S. Department of Justice said
Planning its largest ever election monitoring effort,
it's set to send around 1,000 monitors
to counties all across the country.
It's unclear how many monitors are being sent to California.
And Pope Leo officially became the first pope
to ever vote in an American election.
Vatican confirms that the pope submitted
a mail-in ballot ahead of the midterm elections.
Pope Leo was born in Chicago
and became the first U.S.-born pope in the church's history.
Pope's voting records show he has submitted ballots
in every general election since 2000,
except those in 2020 and 2022.
One of the nation's largest corn mazes is just outside the Bay Area
and wrapping up its season.
You have one more weekend to check it out for yourself.
James Torres is live in Dixon up there
in the North Bay in Solano County,
giving us a peek at what the corn maze looks like.
And you're a veteran. You've done this before, James.
Yeah, and it's a lot of fun too. I love October.
If you love the fall, this is an easy way to get
into that mood here. It's a Solano County tradition.
It's become a KTVU tradition as well.
And there's this big design,
these tall cornfields that are taller than you are,
that you walk through. It takes you about two
and some change hours to get through it. That's
if you're as good as we are.
Of course, we'll take you through there. We're talking
about Cool Patch Pumpkins.
It's out here in Dixon, in the town of Dixon here.
Organizers use more than 40 acres of land
to create these extremely tall pieces of corn
in this giant field. And every year there
is a design that you have to work your way through.
This year's theme, it's an ode to America's 250th birthday.
So you'll see these corn fields
in the shape of America's founding fathers.
They get real creative with it.
If you want to check this out, you still can,
but you don't have that much time.
The core maze is open every year during the month of October.
It wraps up for the season on Halloween day,
so tomorrow is the absolute last day for this year.
Doors open to the public at 9 o'clock today and tomorrow
before shutting down for the next spooky season.
You'll have until 8 p.m. each day to check it out.
We will actually take you inside.
Coming up in about the next hour at 8 o'clock,
of course, Brian Gallo is going to be joining me out here.
We will be giving him a 15-minute head start.
He will go in.
I will follow after.
We will race until the end.
You can follow our journey along on TikTok.
We will be streaming every step of the way
so you can see our reactions, our frustrations.
We might throw a curse word here and there too,
but you can see everything that we are doing
up until we finally cross the finish line.
It's a lot of fun, guys.
James, do the maps, do they really help, though?
They do. They really do.
And the whole reason, and we'll get a map once we get there.
They're all marked with numbers and letters. It's alphanumerical.
And the map kind of helps you pinpoint exactly where you are.
And they have these like stakes,
these pieces of wood that have the numbers and the letters on it
that correspond to where you are on the map.
So it gives you an idea of where exactly you
are and where you need to go.
But the challenge is that we hear every year.
Sometimes teenagers go through this corn maze
that's been open for the last month,
and they'll mess with those steaks.
They'll pull them out.
They'll toss them.
Other places, they'll rearrange it.
Don't tell Brian that because that's my secret that I know
that I would love for him to get turned around about.
All right.
James, we'll check in with you a little bit later.
Thanks so much.
Looking forward to the big battle in the corn maze,
or the pumpkin maze, rather.
All right, let's go over to Sal in the traffic center now, Sal.
