To get the latest,
let's cross now to our correspondent in Kyiv, Emmanuel Shaz.
So, Emmanuel, at this point,
what more do we know about the situation in Oleshky?
Well, in Oleshky, the distribution of humanitarian aid
has already long begun and so have evacuation operations.
We've just got a message,
public message from MP David Arakhamia from the presidential majority
who said that the Ukrainian delegation led by...
Miroslav Rubinets has just left Oleshky together with evacuees,
with those of the people from Oleshky,
the residents who wished to leave the city
and who wish to return to Ukraine.
We do not know at this stage just how many people will reach Ukraine.
We know through David Arakhamia that the Ukrainian delegation
with those evacuated residents will first go to...
Krasnodar cry in Russia, and there they will fly
to Belarus before coming here on the Ukrainian territory.
That's what we know at this stage.
I just remind you that we're talking about
a city where there were an estimated 1,700 to 2,000 people
who were living in appalling conditions with no running water,
no electricity, no heating and also no food.
Now, Emmanuel, this is the first time that an
extended ceasefire appears to be respected.
What does Russia have to gain from this situation?
Well, at this point, there are concerns on the Ukrainian side
that Russia could instrumentalize this ceasefire.
First off, on a military standpoint,
they could use those few days of ceasefire to resupply troops
that were at a stalemate in this region around Oleshky.
And second of all, you know, brokering a humanitarian deal under
the supervision of First Lady Melania Trump just ahead
of very important elections in the U.S.
The midterm elections will also have full consequences.
seem to be seen in a favourable light
and even more favourable light by the White House.
So many in Ukraine here see a political calculation by the Kremlin,
but as many people here in Ukraine
also are very glad to hear that, you know,
residents of Oleshky will be allowed to leave the embattled city,
although they do fear that many will have
to remain in occupied territory.
Emmanuel, thank you
so much for keeping us updated on what's happening in Oleshky.
That's our correspondent in Kyiv, Emmanuel Shaz.
