It's free pattern time! Hey everyone, welcome back.
Today I am sharing a free
pattern for the Knit Whispering Winds Scarf,
which has this uniquely squishy
texture thanks to the stitch pattern repeat.
If you love a scarf that feels
soft and plush, this one's for you.
Plus it's a one ball project with only
needing about 430 yards of yarn. Of course that depends on
What type of yarn you get.
So for this scarf, I used Vortex Yarns Labyrinth in,
I'm going to mess this up, Nepenthes.
Let me know how bad I butchered that in the comments.
It's a fingering weight yarn with
Fantastic softness and like a lot of bounce like I
the stitch pattern is great but this yarn
really helps so it really brings out the texture
and the colors using this stitch repeat.
But you can substitute with any fingering weight yarn that you like.
Real quick, if you love free patterns like this,

You can drop me a comment also on your favorite type of project
so I know what to make next.
For actual tools, you'll need a US 2 or 3 mm needle,
circular or straight, up to you.
And if you want to change the width,
The pattern is going to tell you how to change
your cast on to make it skinnier or wider
so it's super easy to customize.
And the best part, this scarf can be made for any season.
As you can see it's quite airy
so cotton yarn will be great for summer or use wool and cozy
up and squish it up to make you nice and warm.
So all of the options are available.
Everything you need, the pattern download,
the materials, the tools, everything that I used is
linked in the description below.
But next up I'm going to walk you through the pattern repeat with
a quick tutorial so that you can see how
the pattern repeat works stitch by stitch. Follow
along and you'll have this beautiful squishy scarf taking shape
in no time. So let's see that now.
Okay, so to work our eight row repeat,
the first four rows, we're just knitting.
That's it.
Just knitting back and forth.
So knit row one, knit row two,
knit row three, and knit row four.
Could not be easier.
Then we'll come back for row five where we actually
do something other than knit.
So get going on these and I'll see you in a bit.
okay you've gotten your four rows of knitting done we
are now ready for row five instructions
we're gonna do three knits on both ends
to create kind of just a garter edging around
the entire thing for stability and keeping it from curling
so we're gonna do three knits one two three
And then we're going to start our pattern stitch repeat which is
very easy. It's really a two stitch
or even kind of a one stitch because you're going to yarn over
and then you're going to purl two together.
So when we do that we yarn over we bring the
yarn to the front so it's almost like a full circle all the way around
and then we're going
And we're going to purl two together,
so we go through the next two stitches, we purl
those two together and pull off and that's it.
So it's pretty good rhythm when you get going.
You're just going to kind of wind around,
purl those two together and slide off, wind around,
purl those two together and off.
So we do that all the way across and then at the very end we'll have
three stitches left over
and we're just going to knit those three again. Then the next row
We're going to knit again. So row six we are just knitting
the entire row once again and then we're
going to come back for row seven
and it's just going to be a little variation of row five. So
this is a very very simple pattern.
You just have to keep track of the rows that you're on.
On to the row you're on, unless you're really good at reading stitches,
then you don't even have to worry about it.
So I'm going to come back at row 7, so I'm going to finish this,
and then I'm going to do row 6 of just plain knit,
and then we'll come back for row 7, and we'll be almost done.
Okay, we are on row seven.
We just did row six of just straight knits. Now for row seven,
we're going to start off the same way.
We're going to do three knits, just like every row,
basically, even though we're knitting, we're doing three knits. Then
What we did last time was yarn over,
purl two together to get our big holes. Well if you notice
our holes are offset here
so this time we're going to purl two together and then yarn over.
So we just kind of started off different
the first time because you can kind of
Getting the rhythm of that yarn over purl two together.
And that's all you're doing.
So those are the two actual rows where we do stitches
because we have one more row after this.
I don't know why I'm making life
so difficult for myself on these purl two togethers.
Slide your yarn down!
Um, but we are, after this,
row eight is the very last row of repeat, and all we're doing,
you guessed it, is knitting.
So really just two rows of actually paying attention. The rest of
the time you can mindless knit and watch TV
or whatever you're gonna do, and just keep repeating
Knitting these two rows, or these eight rows.
Sorry, um, until you get it the length that you want,
or you run out of yarn, or both, whatever
it may be. So let's go do some final thoughts on this.
Fairly easy, right? If you give this a try,
