Dog no one wanted finds someone who loves him

Oh my God.
He had been used as a bait dog
and somehow managed to survive that situation
and then ended up in the shelter.
If I remember correctly,
they like busted a dog fighting ring
and he was one of the dogs that was pulled
out of the house and taken to the shelter.
He did have a broken jaw and a broken hip
when I adopted him.
It was $5 adoption day, the day that I went.
And they were like,
we don't even want to charge you the $5.
Please take him off of our hands
because he was in there for like
at least two or three months.
That's it.
They did not have any adoptions for him at all.
It was very obvious that he had not had the comforts
of life until he came to live with me
and then he was very much okay with it. Toby learned very
quickly what the good life was.
He was all about anything that involved pillows or blankets or
just snuggles in general. I would come home from work sometimes
and I'd be like where where is he?
And I would find that he had taken all of the pillows
and the blankets on the couch and made
And made himself a fort and he would be inside of it.
The only real problem I've ever had.
I had with Toby, he is a resource guarder with food.
And so that took us some time to get everybody adjusted to
because he was not used to getting a regular meal.
Yes.
Oh.
We call him a little potato man.
He wants to sit in your lap when you're watching tv or maybe
snuggle next to you in bed. He's very very loving
when he loves you but he's also really independent.
He is the most independent dog I have ever had.
Every night he wants to sleep in the kitchen.
He wants to be downstairs on this bed
because he knows that first thing in the morning is when
breakfast is when grandpa comes in and so he doesn't want
to be late. He wants to be there.
He has such a strange combinations of breeds in him.
He's got a lot of terrier. He's got
Pomeranian and he's got Chihuahua as well as Laapsa Opsa.
And so he has almost like three
different kinds of fur going on.
And I've never experienced another dog quite like it. He's got
these really long wispy ones
and then the really short dense stuff. And then this
Puffy stuff and it's just it's very unique
and it always cracks me up because I can look at his hair
and it's like most of it doesn't even look like it's attached to him.
It looks like it's just floating around him like a dust cloud all
of the time. And he has eyes that are very soulful.
They will stare right into your heart. It's been so cool
to watch him grow and become healthy again. Honestly, I don't.
To this day understand how he survived it because
when I got him he was about six and a half pounds
totally emaciated with yellow fur and he had a broken jaw
and a broken hip because of it. Now
he's so happy to be there and just chill with everybody.
I'm Em and this is Toby's story for GeoBeats.
