Cambridge musician's new album celebrates traditional folk music

Every now and then, I'm gifted with a story.
For instance, there's a song on the record
called The Hills of Harrington,
which is a true story.
Harrington is a very small hamlet
just down the road from where I grew up.
And it's a true story about a woman,
pardon me, a bachelor farmer
who was illiterate,
who was looking for a wife back in the late 1800s.
And he enlisted the help of the postman.
To write a letter
and post it in a newspaper in Glasgow looking for a bride.
And it was answered, and the young woman and the farmer
corresponded back and forth through the help of the postman.
And the young woman came over from Scotland,
and the young man went to Scotland from Canada,
and they passed each other somewhere in the Atlantic.
And the woman arrived in Canada, and there was no farmer,
but there was the postman who met her at the Woodstock train station.
And, well, you know.
Wow.
No, so it turned into the hills of Harrington.
But how do you get that story?
Where did you find that?
Oh, I mean, they're gifted to me.
Sometimes people will say, hey, you know,
they'll find me after a show and say, hey, you've got to hear this one.
This is a great story about blah, blah, blah.
We'll
Gosh, yeah, just, just, they come, they sort of, I guess you just,
as a writer, your ears are perked up a little bit more.
be
right
back.
