Ray DuBois wins Winnipeg's St. Norbert-Seine River council ward

Ray Dubois is headed to City Council. CBC News is projecting that the Garden Centre owner is going to win the race here in the St. Norbert St. River Ward. And it's been high vibes here all night at the St. Norbert Hotel where Dubois celebrated with people. He got the endorsement from outgoing Councillor Marcus Chambers who was the City Councillor here for almost a decade. Dubois is actually friends with Chambers. He thanked him in his speech and he called his buddy a beauty. And Dubois says he's going to turn over his garden center business to his family now as he looks ahead to life as a city councillor. I'm actually overwhelmed by the outpouring of kindness and support from the community and volunteers and friends and family that just came out and worked so hard to help me achieve this dream. Three other people also ran in this race. Dubois took the time to thank them before he got off the stage today and celebrated with friends and family. He told me that he's going to take Thursday as a day off and then it's back to business. Gavin Axelrod, CBC News, Winnipeg.
