Fans here at home are mourning the loss
of the legendary actor Patrick Stewart.
Fox 11's Tina Silva is live in Hollywood
at his star on the Walk of Fame.
Well, she didn't rely on me, but you speak.
Christine, it's been a very difficult day for Star Trek fans,
and they have been coming by here to drop off some flowers
and to take pictures of the star, you know,
and to talk about what he meant to them.
Patrick Stewart, they've also left a couple of cards,
and let me read you this one, thinking of you.
Thank you for being our captain and leading us into the 24th century.
Rest in peace. Make it so.
So.
Sir, when men
of good conscience cannot blindly follow orders.
Captain John Luke Picard,
one of the most beloved characters Patrick Stewart ever played
on Star Trek.
Today fans are saying goodbye to the man who brought him to life.
Stewart died Wednesday at the age
of 86 at his home here in Los Angeles.
Now according to his family,
he had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease and Lewy body dementia.
For so many people, he will always be Captain Picard
in Star Trek The Next Generation, but
others know him as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movie.
And of course, there was the famous line, make it so.
Stewart had a career that spanned more than six decades.
But before he became a household name in Hollywood,
he was a stage actor in England performing Shakespeare.
He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II
in 2010 for his contributions to drama.
And here on the Walk of Fame, fans have been coming
by to take pictures of the star and to say how much they loved him.
What a British icon Sir Patrick Stewart was.
My recollection, best memory, is from the
series Frasier. He was only in it for one episode,
but he made such an impression. He
basically ran the episode.
His ability to command a stage or screen,
that imposing presence and that unmistakable
voice. I mean, there are just so few voices out there,
just so, you wouldn't recognize
it from the spotlight.
What would you like to say to his family?
Just how much the fans loved him
and just how rewatchable the show is because he was
a captain who just showed great leadership,
but then he was also willing to listen and
when he felt strongly about something, he didn't back down.
William Shatner posted on social media
from the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise.
He brought intelligence,
grace and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did.
Captain Picard stood for the best of us
and so did the man who played him.
And back here live, you're looking at the flowers
that have been left behind by fans.
You know, it has been, Christine, a slow day,
but the ones that have been coming by,
they're talking about how it's been a really difficult week
because it's not the first
Star Trek actor to be lost this week.
And so it's just been a heartbreaking week overall.
And they talk about Patrick Stewart and just how,
what an amazing actor he was,
And also a great person because he was
into saving animals. He was just, you know,
so many wonderful things that people had to say about him.
Yeah, just reading his history, too,
growing up poor and domestic violence in the household
and becoming such a class act.
Really a beloved man. All right, thanks so much.
