It is one of the key battleground races this election season,
the 4th Congressional District in Nassau County.
Yes, that's where our freshman Democratic incumbent, Laura Gillen,
is running for re-election against Republican Janine Driscoll.
And the stakes are high.
We need to get our country back on the right track.
We need to bring down the cost of living.
For freshman incumbent Congresswoman Laura Gillen,
that starts with a win next week.
The Democrat from Rockville Center has strived
to strike a bipartisan approach in Washington,
but says Republicans have stymied many
of her efforts to lower costs for residents,
something that won't happen if Democrats take the House majority.
I'm hoping to get those bills across the finish line.
I introduced the bipartisan bill to permanently
and fully restore the SALT deduction.
The SALT deduction that we got in the one big beautiful bill,
that's a SALT surrender.
It's temporary.
Janine Driscoll and Mike LaPatrick, come on up.
Meanwhile, Republicans hope to maintain
their majority by making gains in Nassau County.
To do that, the GOP chose Hempstead receiver of taxes,
Janine Driscoll, to challenge Gillen.
I think it's critical and I don't think
that there's any question that we will keep it.
Driscoll acknowledges the affordability crisis,
but says it's a temporary byproduct of the
president's justified efforts to protect the U.S. and Israel.
We no longer have a nuclear threat,
which has been looming over us for 50 years, 47 years.
And I will say something else about President Trump
is that he knows that this is an issue
that is difficult for us to handle through the midterms.
But he's committed to his America First agenda,
making America as strong as it can
and protecting our number one ally, which is Israel.
A possible boost for Driscoll,
having Nassau's own Bruce Blakeman at the top of the state ticket.
But if there's one candidate
who's had success against the Nassau GOP machine,
it's Gillen, the former Hempstead town supervisor
who wrestled this seat away from Republican
Congressman Anthony D'Esposito two years ago.
I've always stood up for my residents and I'll
continue to do that in Congress.
All right, so you can hear more from Gillen and Driscoll
on our website. Libertarian Party candidate
Blake Tarnoff is on the ballot as well.
