Today is day two in the murder-for-hire plot
in the death of a Dallas rapper.
It's the second in a series of three different trials.
Dan Godwin is live outside the courthouse
with the major points from day one.
Well, Shannon, this capital murder trial
is expected to last between two and three weeks.
The jury of nine men
and three women will decide the fate of rapper Yella Beezy,
whose real name is Marquise Conway.
He's accused of orchestrating the murder of rapper Moe 3.
Prosecutors say Conway paid Keewon White to kill the rival performer.
Moe 3 died in an ambush on a local freeway in 2020.
Keewon White was convicted of capital murder in September
and sentenced to life in prison.
Marquise Conway has pleaded not guilty.
Both the prosecution
and defense presented their opening statements on Tuesday.
It's not just murder. It's a murder for hire.
And I want you to think while you hear about
this evidence is what would cause a man to do that.
You're also gonna hear from the victim
because this feud from 2017 up until 2020
was being played out in front of everybody.
They will never show
and they'll never rule out all the reasonable doubts that come to
evidence showing Marquise Conway entered into any type of agreement
to want to pay money for the murder of Melvin Noble.
The jury heard from several witnesses yesterday as well,
including some from the trial this past summer of Kiwan White.
But the state must present this proceeding
as a brand new case for this new jury.
The 35-year-old Conway faces up to life in prison if convicted.
A third defendant, Devin Brown, is believed to be the getaway driver.
His capital murder trial will follow Yella Beezy's.
Live outside the Crowley Courts building, Dan Godwin on Good Day.
All right, thank you, Dan.
