Muammar Gaddafi: The Rise and Fall of Libya's 42 Year Ruler | Full Documentar
Muammar Gaddafi seized power in Libya in 1969 at just 27 years old, overthrowing King Idris in a bloodless military coup. What began with promises of Arab nationalism, social reform and a greater share of Libya's oil wealth developed into 42 years of authoritarian rule. This documentary traces Gaddafi's rise, his Green Book political system, the repression of opponents, his support for militant groups abroad and Libya's growing confrontation with Western governments.
From the 1984 killing of Yvonne Fletcher and the 1986 Berlin nightclub bombing to the destruction of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Gaddafi became increasingly isolated internationally. Yet in the 2000s he rebuilt relations with the West and abandoned Libya's weapons of mass destruction programs. That transformation would not save his rule. In 2011, revolt spread across Libya, NATO intervened, Tripoli fell and Gaddafi was captured and killed near Sirte, ending his 42 years in power.
