Cal DL Derek Wilkins on Ways to Fix Cal's Penalty Issues

Are there any other changes that you've noticed throughout the season to counter these? you know running 80 yards to go touch the pole so that's another way uh that we try to combat it uh hands to the face we've uh on our sled that for the d lineman we've actually lowered the sled so we put it at the lowest possible level to work on our pad level and getting hands uh getting our hands under the hands slip up we're taking another rep like those little things that we're building uh i mean football's physical game like obviously you're gonna get some physical penalties but Like you said, we've been towards the top of the nation. So those are the overall things we've been doing. And then on an individual level, guys have been focusing more on playing with better technique and doing what they can because we know when us as a defense, when we don't get in our own way, we play a really good ball. But when we have these penalties, we shoot ourselves in the foot and things tend to snowball sometimes. So that's been a big point of emphasis. If we can play clean football, we can play good defense and so that's what we wanna do.
