Quan Lan is an island commune in Van Don District—a rare place that has preserved the full range of traditional Vietnamese village cultural institutions, including communal houses, pagodas, shrines, and temples. On the island, one can easily come across fragments of ancient pottery, bowls, and plates—whether while excavating soil for building foundations or diving in the waters of the Mang River. Consequently, Quan Lan serves as a site of significant archaeological value. Based on historical evidence, many scholars have hypothesized that Quan Lan was the central hub of the ancient Van Don trading port.
