Today, I went to several calls, and I’m showing two of them where they were trying to run cooling and couldn’t. Two very different reasons. #hvac #hvaclife #fieldpiece #makita #hvacguy #hvactech #hvactechnician #lowvoltage #honeywell

The first involves a failing control board in a tight attic space, while the second focuses on a thermostat issue where a simple wiring check prevented an unnecessary part replacement.
Happy New Year's guys, today is January 1st, I took yesterday off
because the Georgia game
was yesterday so I just took the whole day
and I'm working today, I'm going to show you
two calls where nothing was working nothing at all
and on one of them I almost made a mistake
and replaced the thermostat when it didn't need to be replaced
and I'll show you what I found, stay
tuned, the call I'm looking
at right now
is um they have
a blank thermostat and
whatever wherever the
air handler
or furnace is
it's in the attic
so I don't really
know what we got
yet that's a low
roof okay
so it helps if you go
at the air handler
from the correct
side now this has
a little more
of a walkway
and better
access
looks like
when this
was done it
was not too
terribly
bad um it
looks like they could have moved this back a little bit
and given some more room looks like
it'll
be difficult
to get
the coal out
but right
now we have
a a blank
thermostat
transformers
way
in the back I am hearing what I think
is the reversing valve clicking, I'm touching that board
trying to
determine
which one
is red here
i think it's
going that
well did
y'all hear
that it's
hard
to be in this position
kneeling and leaning over
all right i'm testing i
can't see it i think this
is common i have 24
volts between here
and here that right
there breaks that
breaks my red but
you know something that looks like
it's not hooked up that ain't
even hooked up i didn't use those
oh looks like they got on split bolts
so that's a good option all right we're fixing to check this
all
right
right
now i've
got 24
volts
here
this
right
here has
been my
problem
it
clicked
when
i started messing with it i'm gonna go check
the thermostat real quick and see if it's lit up
and
i'll be
right
back
i
didn't
make
it out
and
that
came
on all
right
i'm
back
up
here
because
this thing did not continue to run
and i had an e2 error on my thermostat and i checked a couple
times and one time it didn't have voltage
and one time it did so i'm still losing voltage to my
thermostat
see that
that
dropped
to 14
for just
15 there
it goes
again
17 7 8
6 right
so i was
able to catch it i am losing 24 volts at this
board and um the power's still on now so i need
to be careful but do y'all
see how that wiggles those
are solder connections
i'm suspecting this
board
and that's gonna
be a bugger
to replace
a second yeah
that's not good
while i'm at it i'm
gonna
check
that
right
there
might
as well
while
i'm here
it looks
rough
12.5.43
yep that
just
pulls out i did not feel what
um i did at the end because i had
to lay down on the that little
flooring my back was just killing me
and um look to see where those wires plugged up and unplugged
that that board being upside down like
that is really difficult to work on but i was able to
unplug it put power back to it
and i got a steady 24 volts up front to the where the fuse is
so i'm either going to quote them a new board if i can find one
or i can just rebuild that thing um
i think i could just do it with a i might
be able to use the transformer that's there
a blower relay those heat relays i can reuse them
so yeah i might be able to do everything i need to
do with just a 9340 relay but either way i had to submit an estimate
and get approval so we are
we're gonna have to wait till at least tuesday
so we're we're coming back to that one nothing
is working at least this one is a furnace
in a closet instead of getting into a tight attic
so here we go all
right we got an old
carrier weather maker
it looks like a newer
Rhencool on
the bottom
all right
so let's see
what's going
on the power
to the board
let's
test and see
if we're
getting
power
out the
thermostat
is set for
the fan to
come on all
right let's take
a closer look
at that thermostat
i've gotten
no comment
my thermostat
was a little
up but these right here should
be 1.5 volts i think she needs
a new thermostat i have used
both of the ones that i have let me take another look
and see if i don't have another one okay so
I um jumped out green
and I'm getting my 24 volts over there
so it looks like I need to
get her a new
thermostat I
don't have any
on the van right
now I was about
to replace that
thermostat and sub base until I saw
this that right there might be the only reason it wasn't
working so
that's my two
videos I do
appreciate
y'all
watching
in the
support I'm
gonna have
two more for you tomorrow so thanks for watching
