Good morning guys, we are on an old I think it's 1980s air handler
and this customer requested
a float switch because it leaked water
and got damage on the ceiling below
this is not like modern air handlers
so there's only really one float switch i could use
i'll show you, i dropped my light
down there but what i was trying
to show you is that this does
not have a regular secondary drain tap
so we're going to put an easy trap on it, but first i
gotta
get
these
out so
i can
get my
light
see
but i'm
struggling
to get
this
out so i
can get
this
out
this was
supposed
to be an
easy job
the rest
of this
out for
them
while i
lay that
is up
seltzer
it's
right
here
give
that
another
try
real
quick
here
that
makes
my job
so
much
easier
all right my idea is to come out here
with an easy trap let it do its thing and then come straight
over and back down okay this fitting does not want
to come off i think i could get it off but
i'm going to leave it i don't want
to risk breaking everything anything this air handler is from 1986
everything's still working
so i'm just going to tap onto that right there because i want to move
this out a little bit instead
of adding a coupling i'm going
to add a t right here like some real
some real nasty stuff straight up
there we go this is the actual
product i'm going to use it's a
trade pro trade
pro drain trap
kit that's
the part number
if you have
bought one of
these kits just
to get the brush because you can buy just a brush
okay this piece i'm going to go like that and then
excuse me i can't see that this piece is going
to go like that this is going to come over here
we can angle it a little bit so it goes directly over there
so i just need a little piece of pvc
i'm sorry
that y'all
forgive
me that is
schedule
20 PVC it's
bending
when i try
to cut
it right
here if y'all can see i know
it's going to stick out a little
bit more but if y'all know these
once that gets glued on there real good this part might come out
so i might have to glue it again
see what i mean this is like
a it converts what i think is one inch
to three quarter so now make sure
your switch is on top this piece
comes next goes in right there
there's nothing to pull out all we
have to do is glue it
and we're getting somewhere
what i need to do now
is angle this so that we can
come straight down i'm going to go ahead
and piece the rest together so i need another piece of pvc
and i need an elbow
and maybe a couple too long
cut it right about here
still a little bit too
is on
that's
almost
a
total
thumbs
up for
me I'm
going
to
shorten
this
piece
a
little
bit so
that
it kind
of angles down air
conditioner just
turned on i said i
was going to shorten
this one up a
little bit
right at
the corner
over there
that's what
we want go
ahead and
glue this
so this is
going
to come down
a little bit it'll
have a little bit
of an angle to it
that's right
so now
it's got a little bit of a down flow to it
this is ready to go we just have to wire up the switch
he's got this set on 68 degrees i'm gonna turn it up
so it turns off i can't believe this old
system is still keeping it's still doing
that good i have not had to add any refrigerant to it
what year
did i say
86 looks
like
our low
voltage
comes up
and goes
in here
you can
smell it
that
glue so basically these
wires right here need to
go into the air handler
i know i brought some
wire nuts with me
but i don't know
where they are, let's see
can't see there is a
huge opening right
there, so basically i need
to find my thermostat
wire that connects for
the cooling or either the
red wire and then separate
them do i have here i think
those are my two yellow
wires we just kind
of like that yellow right there comes
from my transformer, tell you what i'm gonna look up here
and i might separate it from what is probably
this is going to be my common and this is going
to be my my red wire, man it is wire-nutted like
three different times but that is it right there
there's my low voltage red wire
or hot wire that's
the one i'm going
to break i'll tell you what let
me get my
nail this
is my first
connection
skin back
a little
bit more
now let's
see if i can
clean up this mess a little
bit all right we have a low
voltage fuse on the common
that's basically
what it is i mean
it technically
that should
work let me get
some zip ties
so we
are almost done
I'm gonna seal up this real quick get me
a little piece of PVC
for this and we're going to cap that
i basically added this T just for the reason
of being able to add like algae tablets or something
like that if you do not cap that off before it
gets to the p-trap the p-trap will not work
basically this is a negative pressure air handler
which means it is sucking air through here and
blowing it out the top so this part of the cabinet is negative pressure
so that means it will suck
air through the drain from outside all
the way through here if there's
no water in this p-trap
that's why we have the p-trap
so that it won't be sucking air if it's sucking air water will not
flow down the drain so if i had left
that open it would have done the same thing so now when this
fills up with water and we can fill it up i tell you what why don't we
do that i'm gonna go ahead
and prime the time we're gonna try to use one
of these cans that was down here all right that's
enough that is plenty in just a second there we
go I just wanted to make sure that fan was going
gonna run we have our 24 volts
so basically all we have done is install a water safety
well we'll see okay
so basically this wall is not going
back i could have made that a little
bit shorter but we now have access to the air
hammer leave the brush please well guys i hope
you enjoyed the video that is a very simple little job
that was actually my second trip out there
because i had gone out there with a regular float switch
and didn't realize they didn't have a
regular secondary drain so i had to go get one
of those easy traps easy trap is a name brand but it
is the exact same thing that i just installed
and installed it now we have better access to the air
handler they have some protection for their ceiling
so i think that one turned out okay
and if y'all like these videos like
and subscribe that kind of thing really does help out and you
know what else helps out checking out the store
in the corner it really does if y'all go to amazon
using my link even if you don't buy anything there
and you buy something in Amazon like in the next
24 or 48 hours it helps me out it does
so just visiting the link might be one way of supporting
i'll catch y'all in the next one
