Well, building a hurricane kit doesn't have to be overwhelming.
John Dawson shows us a ready-made option
on today's Hurricane Gear Test.
On today's Hurricane Gear Test,
we are looking at a survival system from Uncharted Supply Company.
Now, their original go-bag launched them
to the pinnacle of the preparedness industry.
This is their newest kit. It's the 72 Core survival system.
It's a slimmed-down version of that original 72 kit.
Today, I want to spend
my time showing you every single thing that is in this bag.
But I'm going to start, though, with a reminder
of the top five things I always look for in emergency kits.
Food and water are always going to be first.
And you're going to need a flashlight
or a lantern that are battery-powered.
Don't forget about a way to charge your cell phone.
And finally, you must have a well-stocked first aid kit.
We'll look for my five things as we're kind of going through.
And we'll start with the beginning, the food and water.
Look at this organization, though.
Have you noticed how well-organized this is?
All of these compartments, everything very well-labeled.
So it's really a great setup here as far as the organization.
That's a key component when you're looking at pre-built systems.
You want it organized.
Food and water first.
So food is very typical what we've got here.
These are the Datrex emergency rations.
This is 2,400 calories.
You would be able to fill this water container, this water jug.
And then you could use these tablets.
They're sized about right to purify whatever's
in here if you're able to fill that.
So that's part of that water plan.
It kind of has some redundancies as well.
So that takes care of the food and water.
We'll get into the tools here.
Again, everything's labeled here.
Duct tape, fire starter, knife, paracord, shovel.
So they have some literature that kind of shows you exactly what
is not in here that is in fact labeled.
And that's part of how they make
this a more cost-effective bag to purchase.
Over here, we've got first aid.
We're going to start with some antibacterial wipes.
The actual first aid kit itself is right here,
which is a pretty complete kit with the standard band-aids, scissors.
You've got gloves, tweezers,
all the kind of things that you would kind of expect to find
in a first aid kit. This is the only flashlight that's included,
which is something that's
definitely a mark against it, in my opinion.
I would really like to see a real flashlight in
here and not just this or just the glow sticks.
But this is also going to be a radio. It's going
to be a way to charge your cell phone.
It provides quite a bit of good information for you. And then
You're gonna have a very small, but still pretty useful,
I think, multi-tool that's included over here.
Remember, a pre-built kit is a starting point.
It's never perfect until you finish it.
So you need to fill these labeled empty compartments
with the items specific to your needs.
Especially, remember your dependents, elderly, children, and pets.
Add the things in here to best help you and your group.
I give the Uncharted Supply Company 72 Core Survival System
a level 5 out of 5 on my emergency kit priority scale.
It's about $120 cheaper than their standard pack.
Online price is $229.
