A microSD card is 15 × 11 mm and 1 mm thick, yet the biggest ones hold 2 TB. The trick: 16 stacked chips, each one a 3D "skyscraper" with well over 100 floors, adding up to more than 5 trillion memory cells that store 3 bits each by trapping a few electrons.
In this video:
🔹 How much 2 TB really is
🔹 What's inside the card: dies, bond wires, controller
🔹 How a flash cell stores bits by trapping electrons (TLC vs QLC)
🔹 Why flash went 3D, and how a 3D NAND chip is built
🔹 What the controller does: error correction, wear leveling, bad blocks
🔹 How to check if your card is fake, for free
🔹 Why a 512 GB card shows up as 476 GB
