UCF Forward Drew Hansen Discusses His Brace in Knights’ Big Win Over No. 18 South Carolina
Oct 26, 2026
Those two goals.
Great.
I mean, just really good win.
It was a total fight from both teams.
They didn't give up.
You know, I think we sort of fell asleep a little bit.
And then the boys responded really well
after they got one back.
And then it's just one of those games,
like in this conference, anybody can beat anybody.
And definitely had to scrap it out.
But it was a fun game.
We're blessed to be out here.
And we really enjoyed it.
How does the win feel, especially
that loss in Morgantown Virginia uh coming coming here
and finally getting the win in front of the home
crowd yeah um like i said
in this conference it's like anybody can beat anybody and West Virginia
was ranked South Carolina I think is still ranked
and like they have a very good RPI so um we've
been very good at home this season and so to to bounce back
and then have another home game coming
up on Thursday I think that it's a good opportunity for us to continue
and like build up a little bit
more momentum take me through
that second goal there South Carolina you know it just gotten on
the on the board to make it a one goal game again
so take me through that play
and what it meant to you to be able
to get back up to two goals again yeah I
think our press was excellent I started
with the staff they talked about like
tactically how we were going to press this morning
and I think all night it was
super successful we got our first goal off the press
and then Ethan was really
good to win it off the defender
and then he was able to play right to me and then
from there it's kind of just it happened
so fast but I mean like to do like that
high intensity of a press over and over
and everyone from back to front was just
it was really really good
so I think that gave us a lot of success throughout
the night not just on goal.
How do you feel like this team plays differently now than
it did in the beginning of the season?
I think first you know in college soccer
there's such a high turnover rate typically
so we just have more chemistry
in general but i think that the more you play together you start
to learn each other and then
you also um as you're like building team camaraderie just you sort
of learn how to fight
like as a unit and i think that i said that already
but that game was really a fight and
i think that we just work like we know how each other plays
and what each other's going to do and
then if someone is tired or out of position like
when you work together so hard for so long it's
like okay like i want to run for that guy
because i know that he would do the same for me so i think
it like lots of elements of a family that are really important
And what does it mean for you to get you
to have a game like this with a couple
of goals given, you know, how the offense
was at the beginning of the season?
Yeah, you know, I think most years, you know, the same as last year,
it takes time to sort of find form, but it's always exciting.
Like as a forward, I want to score goals.
And so to do so in a big game is important, but
mostly like most importantly is the team.
And I'm just like I said, I'm so proud of the boys.
like that game was such a fight and I'm gonna,
you know, like beat a dead horse with that.
But it was really a fight and like proud of the boys,
you know, like it wasn't an easy game.
There were like a couple of forks in the road
with them getting two goals back.
They didn't give up, but those are the types of games that you have
to win to do something and like win a trophy at the end.
What does this team need to do?
You got two matches left before the Sun Belt tournament.
What do you guys need to do between now
and then to be ready for that tournament?
You know, I think that I was talking with you,
Peace, and it's really a game-by-game thing.
So I think that a lot of it comes down to who you play next.
And I think that, like I said,
our staff had done an excellent job with the scout for this game.
And I think as a team,
we were really well prepared to counter how they play.
And they've had a lot of success.
And even we could have been better.
Both of their goals, I think, came off of crosses.
And we knew that they were a very successful crossing team.
So I think that probably some fine details and refining those.
And when we do our scout for Georgia State,
I think that's what we play Thursday.
Make sure that those little details
that when we do have a lead, like I said,
we refine that and we don't slip up
because while we did get the win today,
those type of mistakes can be costly.
Thanks, Drew.
Thanks, Drew.
