And Venezuela's opposition leader
and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado
returned from exile for the first time since December 2025.
Machado made her first public appearance
in her home country ever since the U.S. military
deposed former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Now, the Venezuelan opposition leader greeted
her supporters during a mass at Basilica of Santa Rosa
in Barquisimeto, located at around 300 kilometers west
of the Venezuelan capital, Caracas.
Machado announced her arrival on social media,
writing, and I'm quoting her here,
I'm here, I am with you.
Similarly, Machado's colleague, Edmundo Gonzalez,
has welcomed the opposition leader's arrival,
saying that he would be next to her very soon.
Following this, leader of the opposition delegation,
responsible for Venezuela's political transition talks,
Eduardo Figuera has welcomed the return of Maria Corina Machado.
Meanwhile, residents in Caracas welcomed the return of Machado.
Citizens expressed hope
that Machado's return would help bring political change
to Venezuela? Listen to this.
I am very pleased because those of us who want real change for
this country were waiting for her direct guidance.
We know they wouldn't let her enter. We know
she had many setbacks and that's why we are even more joyful
because it means that today
she has a clear path to enter our country
which needs her so much and which all of us
Venezuelans need so much.
Our citizens in Venezuela welcome Machado. He was Secretary
of State, Marco Rubio, said that talks backed by Washington,
they ensure the safe return of
the Nobel laureate and the release of hundreds
of other political prisoners. On the other hand,
U.S. President Donald Trump has said
that he's unaware of Machado's return to Venezuela.
Speaking to reporters in Washington, D.C.,
Trump said that he does not know anything about it.
I don't know anything about it, but I think she's a very nice woman.
She gave me her Nobel prize,
So how can I say anything else?
And I hope she's safe.
She's a very nice woman.
But we're doing really well in Venezuela.
