Things just picked up REAL quick...

Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Montreal Canadiens are seeing a rise in team maturity and trade speculation. Key discussions center on Cole Caulfield's emerging leadership, the potential trade of Samuel Montembeault due to Jacob Fowler's strong performance, and the team's aggressive pursuit of top-six talent, including rumors surrounding Dylan Larkin and Ryan O'Reilly.
Things are picking up pretty quick
for the Montreal Canadiens, not only in the standings,
but also on the trade front,
as there have been some wild talks recently from Chris Johnson
and some other places, not only leading
the Habs once again to Larkin, which seems insane
that we're saying it, but also all of this,
plus the performance of Jacob Fowler, is very
much forcing Kent Hughes' hand as to what
to do with the goalie situation.
Yeah, we're talking trade.
We're going to dive into all of that,
plus a little note on the leadership of Cole Caulfield
and how some recent events that have transpired just shows how good
of a position Montreal is in.
Hey, even when Nick Suzuki has to take a seat for a couple weeks,
you know, the leadership still has to be there for Montreal.
There have been a lot of guys stepping up.
Jake Evans wearing the A,
which was a huge theme of yesterday's video after his,
one of the best games of his career, might I say.
But a big thing, too, is Cole Caulfield stepping up.
We've seen him with the A on his chest on occasion as well,
but he called out Jack Ion Dovesh recently for their penalties,
and we remember this.
We saw him say, hey, you know, like, it wasn't a direct,
wow they were horrible but you know there
was a few quotes we'll show a few here you know shoot
ourselves in the foot no need for any
of those penalties it's on us it's our mistakes and then
you go here he said well we were playing well
and stupid penalties things we don't need to do
and then talking even about Arbour Jack I don't
think anybody wanted to fight him on that team
which is good um but in general Jesse there was a lot
of talk after the game like is this an okay
thing to say is this not but I love what Stu Cowan
a fantastic writer of course check out the article
what he had to say about it there
are a few quotes will flash up on screen but the main thing
no problem with Caulfield calling them out they ended up costing
the Habs the game he speaks truth
and you need that for leadership they built a strong team culture
and Caulfield's a respected
voice how do you think this has been sort
of an underrated storyline as we've developed year over
year he's a silly guy but clearly the guys respect
his voice yeah it's not a problem but it's a little
bit surprising because we haven't really heard
this very often in Habs land we know the culture
is amazing but we're getting
to that next level where there's absolutely a place for this with
the leader like Cole Caulfield saying
so and again there's not a coincidence right Josh
between like obviously Cole Caulfield saying
this and then the Montreal Canadiens playing a much
more mature third period with the two goal lead
and then getting the victory so there's one thing
of saying this and then again like it really resonating
with the team and then getting the
all-important two points the results at the end of the day
because of it and this is important at
the same time right like not just obviously maybe just saying
those words but who's saying it
because we know there's a little bit of a history
with Martin Satherwick and Arbor Jacky yeah
and in fact this criticism's come
from Martin Satherwick it's maybe coming across a little bit harsh
Dollbache is a young guy he wears
his heart on the sleeve it's nice it's nice when guys like
Cole Caulfield can be the go-between
and right now with injuries to guys like Nick Suzuki we know it
we truly need leaders like Cole Caulfield to step
for step up for this team which i really believe
that he's gonna do here and i just love Josh like
how he's understanding he's saying like Dollbache
like he just wants to win we we know this about him
but at the same time this is about also knowing
that the Montreal Canadiens are a very good team
and this is about limiting those unforced errors
exactly that and it's been a theme for the past few years
and hey every year it has gotten better
and now what we're noticing is that like Jack I
was very disciplined in general in that game and
Dovish yeah he's a bit crazy
but we know he's gonna do stuff the thing is like now it's a bit
of an anomaly if they do do something like
this yeah there's still a little immature place here
and there but this was something
that maybe we could have expected a bit more in the past few
years now still holding on to those 3-1 leads is very important
and we did that again against
Chicago which was great but yeah i love that he called them out
and i love that quote that you
alluded to that we showed on the screen maybe
the message from a teammate will get through if it
doesn't come from the coach so cool stuff
on coffee let us know your thoughts on that down
below because he is getting ready
for another hopefully 50 plus goal season but we gotta dive
into some other talks right now
and i think we're gonna start by just kind of prefacing this we'll
get into some more like lark and stuff a bit later
but i think as we're talking about trades
like who could leave Montreal there were a lot
of different names floating up the kirby dock
whatever but with Jacob Fowler shining
so much again especially in that win yesterday i mean
you guys know what happened but he
was so so solid some people even saying he was the Habs best player
in the third period like Nicolas Cloutier did I
don't think it's crazy right and then the Habs
goalies are just like we know Kent Hughes has said
that he does not want to run with three goalies
we even have comments from some people old Habs there should
be no difficulty picking the goalie
for Sunday's game Fowler won
so he starts if he lost it'd be Doves' turn the talk about Fowler
is so consistent Jesse
which means to me that Samuel Montembeault is getting squeezed out so
before we dive into specific like trade packages
who the Habs are going after like we are not
running a three goalie situation like
that's just it's something that we know Hughes does not want
to do none of us want that again
however if it comes to the decision to sit one of these guys
to me in my mind there's no choice but Samuel Montembeault
and it kind of sucks but I would be
honestly kind of shocked if a trade did
not work itself out pronto for the Habs right now and we
see why Kent Hughes is sometimes keeping the cards close
to his chest injuries happen and again this
was for Montembeault but again having just
a couple uh extra cards up your sleeve is never really
hurtful but as now Fowler's claim
the net we've seen what Dobesh can do this just gives increased
certainty for Kent Hughes to really go out
and make that move and we know again the return's
not going to be massive here for for really for Samuel Montembeault
but there is really the value
again of just clearing the crease
for two young goalies i think just need a little bit less noise
around them how does that potentially impact Dobesh's game
in a little bit of a positive way
as well here we need to keep in mind
with Samuel Montembeault yes he had a down year last year but
the two previous years he had a save percentage of above 901
so again that does mean something
in this league there are teams like the New York Rangers
that had a really good start to the season
they lost Igor Shesterkin and they're potentially looking to improve
and feeling if they got a good
of a team where they want to add
so that could potentially be a dancing partner here for Kent
Hughes for Samuel Montembeau
but it's really about clearing some space for the young guys to
grow as they should exactly that and we want
to hear your guys thoughts on this down below
what should the Habs do with Montembeault? it's actually
a picture of an empty net which is
kind of funny should they trade him in a package maybe around
for Larkin to trade him you know for
a pick now just alone or keep three goalies let us know a b
or c because we want to go back to
this Larkin stuff and I feel like it's crazy
that we're even saying this but like there might like
legit be I don't know I don't know what to say
because it feels like whoops I'll get that off
screen okay but like it feels like every day
that goes by we're like well this isn't gonna happen
his trade list doesn't have Montreal
but every day there is someone or something happening that
makes you rethink it and it's which is crazy to me
and again not just specifically Larkin because
as you can see here Chris Johnson said the Habs have
been looking for help in their top six they've
been pretty aggressive they also have a number
of pieces be it picks prospects or even young players
to make a trade of this type indicating you know
a top six trade Larkin has just been you know one
of the he's been the top center on the market there's
no doubt about it and we thought yeah
there's no way right but then you get
this again like Chris Johnston talking about Larkin and the
Canadians I'm getting some optimism around
that not that he's going to wait for Montreal tomorrow
but I don't think it's a hard
no I don't think we can say it's 100% no for Canadian teams for
Larkin not on the no-trade list
this still hasn't happened yet at least he's out there playing
for the Wings but like i mean i don't know what
to think about this at this point regardless
Montreal clearly well positioned for a move like
this i i like want to lean on the side of you know
the original reports are right he probably doesn't want
to but the fact that we're getting some
optimism just shows how impressive Montreal has
been to other players might i say in that NHL
sphere and that is awesome
and speaking of the NHL sphere there's been scouts um actually from
the Detroit Red Wings at Montreal Canadiens games keeping
in mind if Larkin changes his mind
they want to be ready absolutely now it kind
of feels for lack of a better analogy of like a girl
you were interested she wasn't interested
by the time she is interested you've just completely
moved on and you're good with your life um you know
so again but there are other opportunities
here because again we're in the toughest division in hockey
and again not not to be too doom and gloom
but Nick Suzuki could be out realistically
for for one month um so again Kent Hughes was looking
to improve this team regardless of the injury
to Nick Suzuki is obviously our general general
manager going to do a panic move absolutely
not there's one thing we can know about him
but at the same time there is that sweet spot
with certain players like we have mentioned
with Ryan O'Reilly which has again low-key surfaced up
in the rumor mill where there could be an
opening there it's a lot easier than getting Zaka over
in Boston right um but for obviously a guy
that's just 4.5 million AAV one year left on your deal produces
so well seven points in nine games
this season has won a Stanley Cup just hits
so many bases really right now uh for the Montreal
Canadiens again this team is showing that they're deserving
of more talent to join them it's gonna
come it just comes down to which players it's gonna
be exactly I like that shot for Ryan
O'Reilly it's it's not impossible
and like we are aggressive like what like I I want to know
what these conversations with Kent Hughes
are like like I want to I want to just have a bug in his
room that just listens
because I I imagine this dude's calling like yeah 50 times like asking
every GM are you at 2 a.m. 2:30 a.m. he's out he's
in that 50 plus apartment building with him and
Jeff Gorton and Marty San Luis at the bar hey hey Sam Bowman
are you awake you know like stuff like
that anyway but we'll have to wait
and see we even got a lot of comments about stuff like this old
Hab again actually Middle sap make a great trade chip hey
not a bad idea to get a power forward
does Hage score starting to think trading Hage
for Larkin would do more for the Habs look there
are I don't know if I agree I think Michael Hage
is definitely a part of this team's future but
again like we're gonna have to start thinking about parting
with some kind of A-level prospect
maybe Hage maybe Swarovski maybe someone else
so leave your thoughts your comments as you can see
we do read them down below that'll do it
though for this episode some wild updates here for the
Montreal Canadiens and hey we got
the Heritage Classic tomorrow we're very excited hope you guys
are too and if you enjoyed make sure you subscribe
