James Kaufman, World News Report Today.
Going down in a blaze of glory.
I don't know how glorious this is.
You fly over those, not through them.
Terrifying footage has emerged
of a small plane careening into utility poles along Van
News Boulevard, just blocks from Whiteman Airport in Pinacoma,
California, leaving
the 70-year-old male pilot hospitalized in critical condition.
This student pilot
who rented the plane was doing what we call touch-and-goes
at this very small urban airport
and probably should have learned to fly
at a much safer airport with some safer approaches.
A single-engine Cessna owned by Vista Aviation and rented by the pilot
was doing patterns around the airport
and this was its first pattern when they hit the power
lines eventually crashing into a parking lot
at an O'Reilly's auto shop the plane had only been
in the air for 10 minutes in other words he
was about to do his first touch and go this is not
the first time we have seen something similar at this exact spot
and at Whiteman Airport we also
have footage from the last time we saw a similar incident occur
and we will be showing you that as
well it was much more tragic residents have been begging the city
and the FAA to close this airport
for years as it has ended up in a very developed urban area
with very difficult approaches and
locals have seen one incident after another
in the two videos taken from roughly the same location
they both show that the planes were both coming in too low
and ended up hitting the standard
power lines in the area. Again,
not a great place to be learning your touch and goes with a rented
Cessna. The plane that crashed yesterday flew right
into visible power lines and after clipping
the line, the plane flipped over and nosedived into the ground,
luckily making it all the way
across the street into a parking lot
this was the only reason that no residents on the ground
were injured and we have footage of a similar incident in the same area
but things did not go
as well let's take a look at that now
this pilot actually passed after making a huge misjudgment
i can say luckily no one on the ground
was injured it's the only good thing about this
as you can see a huge misjudgment the landing strip
is right behind that home bad news now this
is a picture of White Mountain
and it only has one dedicated runway you can see it right here
these are taxiways and well storage and these
are parked planes as well one dedicated runway
And I guess if you come in too low here or here, depending
on which direction you're coming from, it doesn't go real well for you.
With that said, God bless, folks.
Say a prayer for the pilot's family
because he is in more than critical condition.
Please give us a thumbs up.
Please share and always remember anything
is possible in the Bizarro World
