Unanswered questions about that chaos that led police
to open fire in South Ozone Park. Good
evening, everyone. I'm Arthur Chien.
Tonight, investigators are still trying to fill in the
blanks as that neighborhood remains stunned by what's happened.
Fox 5's Nikki Hauser is
live for us at the scene
with what we know right now. Good evening, Nikki.
Hey, Arthur. Yeah, it's quiet now on 149th Street,
but that was certainly not the case
at this home right behind me.
Last night, we know that four people were stabbed and one woman was
shot by a police officer. That's according to law enforcement.
I want to show you what it looked
like last night. Here's video from that crime scene.
Police tell us this all started as a
reported break-in. Two people with stab wounds called
for help from the third and second floors
of that home. A woman throwing keys
to law enforcement to let them inside. It was in a
small bedroom that they found three people injured
and on top of one another. Police say
they told them to put their hands up,
but the woman with a knife in her hand wouldn't comply
and moved towards officers. That's when she was shot by an officer.
A family friend we ran into
says he's known the family for 30 years, though,
and the homeowner, he says, has been an upstanding
member of society. My heart is with the family.
We like to keep them in our prayers and pray that
everything works well. I understand his daughter's in the hospital
and we will definitely have to
pray for her. We'll be praying for her and the whole family.
I hope the situation works out to
the best. Arthur, the woman and all three men went to the hospital.
Law enforcement tells us that
that woman is in stable condition tonight.
They also tell us that they don't believe that the
woman involved was initially involved in the stabbing at the beginning
or the reported home
invasion. Live in South Ozone Park, I'm Nikki Hauser, Fox 5 News.
