Fox 5. It's time for a good night, New York.
Good evening, I'm Crystal Young.
And I'm Ryan Christopher. Welcome here to Good Night, New York.
Alright, one of us had a crazy day today.
Oh, yes, yes.
And it wasn't me. Okay, so you getting to work today. What's going on?
Now, we were both out late shooting
our Halloween special last night, which is going to be epic.
Yes.
So, you were up early, you're working, you're on the F train.
And things are going really well.
Right.
And the train is flying along on the tracks.
And then the slave's like, wait,
that's Crystal Young from Good Night, New York.
And then suddenly the train goes, eee!
Come on.
No, but seriously, it was flying in the tunnel.
We were about to come out at 53rd and Lex.
And you could tell it was going fast.
Oh, it was going fast.
Like when the train rocks,
then it's like going so fast, you're like, whoa.
Where are we going?
Are we going off the tracks or what?
Exactly.
So it was that kind of like fast, fast, fast.
It stops and lurches back, and clearly something was going on.
this is us now walking through from train
car to train car because they had to take the trains
behind us once we got stuck
and they had to back them up into the station offload all of the people
then they had to take an empty train back it up against our train
and i was in the front car
so I had 10 cars to walk through
and then you had to step from one train into the empty train
along the way there was a woman
that was singing about Jesus she looked like she might have been
homeless like sitting in that corner seat I
was like Jesus needs to come save us all we all we
all need help I met a guy
though his name was Brian Rosa he got great great video and we chatted
each other up so listen to what his theory
is as to how the bucket got down what was going on
OK, tickles. I think a careless MTA worker left the bucket
in the middle of the tracks like they weren't supposed to.
And the vibration of the train knocked it over,
got it caught up in the machinery and stopped the train in front of us.
OK, got it. Got it. Got it. Yes. He's got some inside info.
Yeah, he had a lot to say, but it was very interesting
because the people kind of stopped
and maybe the third or fourth car walking through.
And he's like, people keep going.
And I was just laughing at him, like trying to take charge.
and I was like, are you a native New Yorker?
He was like, I work for NYCHA.
My dad works for the MTA.
I know how this works.
Open the door and keep going through.
There you go.
Okay.
I'm through.
100%.
Shout to Brian.
So it was a little bit of train drama,
but all of that delayed stuff for hours.
I'm sorry to hear that.
Because the E and the F are on that same track.
So then, you know, all the trains behind us stops it.
It was a problem.
But thankfully you made it here to the couch.
I did.
As well.
And I didn't have to ruin my lovely six-inch heels
walking on train tracks battling rats.
Because I don't know what you would have done if you lost one pair.
I don't know if you'd be able to find any others in your closet.
These are special.
Well, those are one of your most legendary.
I stalked these for months.
You stalked them?
I stalked them for months before I purchased them.
On someone else, and you ripped them off them?
And guess where I found them?
Where?
In Dubai.
Come on.
I am not even kidding.
I interviewed a woman, and she had these shoes on,
and I made it my mission to find the shoes.
And I did.
Look at you.
All right.
Look at that.
There you go.
Fabulous.
Well, I got these on Amazon, so there you go.
I was stalking Amazon for—
With overnight delivery?
Yeah, exactly, two-day delivery, but it's all good.
Let's talk about Halloween, though, okay?
Speaking of scary situations, over the past week,
some of the celebrity costumes starting to come out.
One of the biggest stars drawing inspiration from her daughter.
We're talking about Kim Kardashian here.
Check out this.
She's dressing up as her daughter,
North, wearing a waist-length turquoise,
very tricked-out blue wig, spiky lashes,
and even some heavy glam makeup piercings and acrylic nails.
This is kind of cool.
I mean, you can't really knock it.
It's her daughter, so it's all love.
I think I really like it.
I think it's really kind of ingenious.
And as soon as you see the blue hair, the color,
the piercings, you go, oh, my gosh, that's North.
Like, you kind of know, you get it.
Which is crazy that, like,
North is that recognizable and that much of a brand in her own right.
I mean, she is the daughter of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, so.
And can we talk about this?
Isn't she 13?
Yeah.
Is that a little young to have piercings and blue hair?
No.
Have I turned into grandma?
Mom, grandma.
All right.
No, but I get what you mean.
But also, like, you know, they live in a different world.
This is true.
It's a totally different, not league, but totally different world.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I don't know.
Billionaire problems, I guess.
But let's come back here to home, shall we?
Let's talk about the Knicks.
Despite the Knicks starting the season,
losing to the Sixers and LeBron,
fans still feeling the vibe from the championship run,
even when it comes to baby names.
Did you see this?
This is so cute, Crystal.
Yes.
Well, I guess if you think it's cute.
Okay.
It was revealed that a couple,
Ivan Gonzalez and Vince Bradford, named it.
Well, it's K-N-I-C-K-S-O-N, right?
So, Knicks, and then the word on, but put them together.
And then the five has a Y in it, so it's F-Y-V-E.
So, obviously, this is all in tribute to the saying, Knicks in five.
And the baby is so darn cute.
I'll be honest, though.
I'm guilty of, dude, I pitched to my wife.
I said, how about we name him LeBron?
Can we name our son Derek Jeter?
No?
Can we name him Jalen Brunson?
All no's.
I don't know why, but I think LeBron would be a cute name.
Okay.
Well, that's right.
I heard that you were thinking of some names that were a little crazy.
Yeah, but that's okay.
Let's talk about what I think your son's name should be.
Oh, okay, okay.
How about that?
Okay.
So, Drake.
Drake is cute.
Yeah.
And Drake actually is a nice name.
It is a nice name.
I hope he doesn't turn out to be a whiner.
Well, he will be for the first couple years at least, right?
just like his daddy stop whining drake drake
do you like that as a first or middle name um first
first yeah okay come out the gate with it strong okay
and i like the one syllable yeah yeah
yeah like easy like like jack jack my grandfather's name was clyde max
which nobody's named clyde in
2026 but i thought it was cool because like
who's named clyde besides clyde the glide drexler
yes um i don't know you you tell me no no no oh
no well we didn't get through the other two okay
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, wait, there's more?
LeRoian
Oh, like LeBron
LeRoian
LeRoian
I love that.
And it's like French, too, which is kind of, it sounds fancy.
Yes.
See?
He can, like, sip coffee with his pinky out.
LeRoian
And then DJ.
Oh, that's cute.
Come on.
DJ.
I love that.
I thought about this for about 30 seconds.
Yo, those are great, though, Crystal.
I do love those.
Okay.
Maybe we'll throw it in the mix.
What's your favorite?
Do you have a favorite?
I like La Ryan.
Why you always La Ryan?
that's super cute though please stop lying
okay so coming up this wednesday
is the second annual i love
this name courageous
award it's held at the atlanta central library
and will recognize selected domestic violent
survivors whose remarkable journeys
reflect the strength that it takes
to overcome adversity. It's being
celebrated during National Domestic Violence
Awareness Month. Here to tell us more about it is
author, speaker, and coach, Kai Fair, and
friend of Good Night New York, Ms. Carly
Redd. Welcome both of you to the show.
Thank you so much for your time.
Thank you for having us. And making the trip from Atlanta
all the way up here to New York City. We greatly appreciate
that. Okay, we love that. I love
that. I love you guys. We love you
more.
This is such an important event. Why is it so close
to home for the both of you why is it important
to help others through this yes i too am a domestic
violence survivor and so i want to use my platform
and my voice to speak out and say you're not alone
uh you can ask for help i'm here for you
and be courageous and do something big you know it's okay
to start over it's okay how long did it take you
from when the abuse happened to have that feeling
like it's okay and that you wanted to kind
of like pay it forward to help other women that
were going through things like you I went through
a phase at first where I was like blaming myself
and saying okay um you know if I would have never did this if I didn't
and then I just reached out
to people like Kai and Yandy
and I said hey um I want to talk to you about something I'm going
through something and I think it's just really
like Kai always says you know if you look in the
mirror and just say you know what i want
to do something about this yeah i want to get away and
start my life over yeah got you all right it's one step at a time
but you know yeah exactly
meaningful steps yes and kai you inspire
so many uh through your speeches and everything that you
write so so why is it important you important for you
as you can tell you you helped a friend right
here but you're helping so many other people through
this event why is it important that
you're part of this oh i mean you said it right
there helping people um you have to chase the
help a lot of people say chase money if you chase
to help the money to catch up with you right um
that's a good one and then you know as far
as i'm very big on women empowerment and you know
pushing through domestic violence is not easy right
the scars heal on the outside but it's
the mental right so the thing about it is i want
to be the voice for women let them know that a man
can speak in that type of space but then
also for the men that are going through domestic violence
you know your story speak up there's other men
that need other you know need to see your testimony
right so and and also it's not just physical there can be mental abuse
or verbal abuse as well
there's different kinds of abuses yeah tell us
a little bit more about that and how you're able to
help people through this event
in different ways whether it's physical mental verbal yeah so at the
event we have all sorts of resources where we're showing people like
this is how you can get help
whether it's mental physical social abuse
and also there's also scholarships we give away
scholarships and it's just really connecting each other
and say hey look we're here to help you
yeah and i like it that it's all under one roof
those resources that you don't have to search
around you can say okay wait this is my issue
this is how i think i need help there's probably
someone in that room that says i got you you know
that's the main thing is that a lot of people want
help right but they don't know where to get the help
from all right do you think most men because
you mentioned the fellas are they afraid
or ashamed to mention it if they are in those
situations ashamed they feel like the world looks down on them
or laugh at them right and we were
doing uh we were in atlanta
and we were running into men that are saying man i'm going through
this right now and one guy showed me his video
and it was it was bad wow okay so we don't think
that it's just atlanta it's nationwide people
are coming from everywhere oh nice okay and i'm sure
many people from the tri-state here
which is important that we bring this to you guys at home
so if you or somebody you know is going through something similar
to this you can check out this
event this is the second annual Courageous Awards
can people buy tickets how can they support oh no
this is free it's even better that's even better no this is free
so you don't have to pay there is
nothing to pay oh i like that i like
that come get healed yes find some people you can connect
with tell your story and we're
also giving out proclamations okay to those who advocate for
domestic violence nice very good and you being two of those people
so thank you for all that you do
thank you and continued support
um and make sure you go support this event again going down
in the ATL so you're gonna have to take
a little flight down there it'll be a fun weekend
that's right we're gonna have more good night new york
when we retire from fragrance to fiction
after successful career and the fragrance industry Diane Grecker turned
her lifelong love of cozy
mysteries into a second career as an author case
in point right here as the nose nose i like it
Okay, she's not only here to talk about her novels,
but put our noses to the test.
I like this.
Joining us on Good Night, New York is Diane Grecker.
Welcome.
Thank you very much.
Welcome, Diane.
Thanks very much.
No doubt.
So let's talk about first, what did you do in the fragrance industry,
and how were you able to pivot that into writing?
Yeah, so I started my career at International Flavors
and Fragrances many years ago, and I trained my nose.
And so I became what they call a professional nose.
Wow.
Yeah, so I smell for a living.
No way.
How do we smell right now?
Can you tell?
A little bit of tension I smell.
No, no you don't.
Come on, it's all love here.
She knows.
No one knows.
I thought you were going to pick like a kind of scent,
like a little bit of a sandalwood.
She's like, tension.
She can smell the energy.
I can smell.
Well, that's what these books are all centered around.
It's about a woman who was a perfumer,
and she decided to retire down to the Jersey Shore
for some peace and quiet,
and she didn't get any of that.
what she got was a couple of murders
and she helps the police solve those crimes through her
amazing smelling acumen I like
that concept right yeah it's awesome it sounds like it's based on
somebody we might know over here
but now before we put our nose to the test here are there maybe
a men's women's or and or a unisex fragrance
that you think is is really nice for anybody like
anybody watching at home hey this is a great value
for for what you're getting in terms of fragrance
Yeah, well, I have to be honest with you.
For me, in the summer, what I love,
and you're going to think I'm crazy, but it's good old Jean Natte.
Okay.
You can buy it.
Old school.
You can buy it in the drugstore.
But you splash that on.
It has a little muskiness.
It's a little sexy.
Yeah, yeah.
And it certainly is worth the money.
Yeah, yeah.
And men love it on women.
You know what?
Sometimes it's nice to go back to the basics.
I actually like Brut and Old Spice.
You like Brut?
I swear to you, I really do.
I know it is.
Maybe it reminds me of my dad.
Yes.
Okay.
But that's the beauty of fragrance.
It reminds you of your past.
It reminds you of vanilla.
It could remind you of your mom making cookies in the kitchen.
And that brings you a warm feeling.
So fragrance really, you need to pay attention to your nose.
You do?
Yeah.
You really do.
The nose knows.
Now, you're going to pass the test.
Oh, no peeking.
Okay, okay, right, okay.
So I'm going to give you a couple of smells.
Yeah.
that would remind you of the Jersey Shore,
Asbury Park boardwalk thing,
you know, at night, walking along.
Okay.
And so this is the first one.
So when you smell, by the way,
you put it up to your nose like this.
Don't let it touch,
because you'll smell it all day long.
Forever, right, right.
So I bent them already for you.
Thank you.
And you just smell the tip.
Okay.
And tell me what you're smelling.
Chocolate.
I smell, I don't know, like caramel,
like cookies, like something baked.
Oh, you guys are good.
Yeah, yeah.
Chocolate chip cookies.
Maybe I want sweet things now. Yes. Okay, and you're supposed
to smell with your mouth open because doesn't your tongue also?
Absolutely
Okay, think about you know things
on the boardwalk things you would smell when you're walking.
Oh, this is more sweet sugary caramel
Caramel apple.
Oh, I'm going to go with that.
Caramel apple for $200?
Yes.
What do you think?
Tirmesu.
I should know that.
Final one.
This is it.
This is really scary.
You guys are nailing this.
I think you might have a...
Maybe we just like to eat a lot.
Yeah, there you go.
Okay, ready?
This is the final set.
Now, this one is definitely to think about walking
on the boardwalk at night and having something...
Popcorn.
Oh, my God.
Is it popcorn?
Caramel Butter Puff.
Wow.
There you go.
And I'm just going to say that something sweet,
though, but the popcorn comes through.
Do you need help writing a third novel?
I mean, we're available if you need us, right?
I'm going to be calling on both of you for that.
All right, I like it.
And we can check you out online, both of your novels, if we want
to learn a little bit more about scent, all in the same place.
These books also teach you about fragrance.
Every time that you read a chapter,
you're going to learn about perfume.
Oh, I like that.
Well, we love it.
Thank you so much.
No, thank you, Diane.
and we love having you here
and thanks for bringing
those beautiful scents
here to the studio.
Exactly.
And again,
it's all about brew
and what?
Old Spice
and Gina Tech.
There you go.
How about Love's Baby Soft?
Remember that?
Yes, I do.
Okay.
Okay.
All right.
Now it smells like
80 different colognes
all at once.
All good though.
All good vibes.
Coming up,
it's another week
of our football picks
with producer Lou
for Good Night,
Good Picks.
That's right.
The Giants have
a new quarterback.
The Jets are trying
to keep a divisional rival winless we will talk about it all
and we'll explain when new when new
when Good Night New York returns
when new what what what do you do fox time for another edition
of Good Night Good Picks one of our favorite weekly segments only
when we win yeah that's
right last week last week
was a horrible section it wasn't too bad though lou
yeah he's back you should be better at these things
then i know this is what you do if i
If I was better at these things,
I would have already cashed in my house off all my bets.
Yeah, but Crystal, he's got a winning week.
I don't know what you're talking about.
He was 2-1, and so was I.
So if there's a loser here, it might be this one over here.
Okay, let's take a look at our overall standings.
Give me a mirror.
Okay, so overall, I'm 12-5-1.
Lou is 11-6-1.
Crystal is 8-9-1.
Okay, all right.
I get it.
I get it.
I'm a loser.
But we love you.
No, you're a winner in our hearts.
We love you, and you foolishly picked the Jets.
We knew the Jets probably weren't going to make it out.
I think I foolishly picked them again.
We're going to start with the Jets, right?
So you've got the Dolphins who are 0-5.
They haven't won one game this season.
Against the Jets who are 2-4, it's a home game at MetLife, 1 p.m.,
and the Jets are 0-7 in the last two seasons versus AFC East opponents.
That's pretty abysmal.
That is really bad.
Yeah.
All right, well, who are you going with?
So I'm going with the Jets.
I mean, I just feel like Miami's wrecking so bad.
Yeah, you're good, though.
Maybe they're surfing.
Maybe they're just taking too much time off.
Scuba diving.
Yeah, yeah.
Swimming with the dolphins.
All I know is that, like I said, the Jets have to win.
Otherwise, Aaron Glenn can't even be allowed back in the stadium.
All right.
I agree.
I wouldn't even let him change his clothes.
No.
Get him a cab and get him out.
Go somewhere.
What's a bright spot for the Jets of this season?
You know, they're in games.
I mean, that's the thing.
You're competitive.
And they make a lot of mistakes down
the stretch, and that's why they lose.
Their defense has been really good.
They've got a good running game.
They have talent.
Yeah.
They just don't have good coaching.
Got it.
Okay.
All right.
Okay.
Got you.
They're calling out their coach quite a bit here, Lou.
All right.
Next up, we have the New York Football Giants.
They're 3-2-1 on the season versus
the Houston Texans, and that's in Texas,
and that's going to be Sunday 1 p.m. right here on Fox 5.
The Texans are 2-4.
I feel like J.J. McCarthy, he had some
nice momentum there in the fourth quarter.
I'm going with the New York Football Giants.
Lou, who you got?
I think Houston's defense is still too tough.
I think it's going to take a while for McCarthy to pull, you know,
basically a full package in.
They lose this week, they go on their bye,
then they go on a run. That's my pick, so I pick
Houston. Okay. Really? Well, against the home team.
Oh, I like the Giants. I thought it was
going to be a trifecta. He's switching up, but we could
be in Flint between me and you.
Oh, this is true. And we could be two Giants
right here. You want to go Giants?
I do. I will stay with my pick.
You want to battle a big boy.
That's right. I want to make sure that I can
pull away from you. Whoa, okay.
Wow, where are we going with this? What segment
is this? Okay, on that note,
the final pick of the week all right uh green bay packers yes
and the detroit lions it's going to be
sunday 4 25 on fox 5 the pack they've won three
straight games i'm going with the packers they
seem like they're having a nice season jordan love
was balling out last week i'm going with
Green Bay Green Bay i'm going with the lions
because the game is actually in detroit and i
like their outfits though the outfits
are nice you don't like the color green huh
By the way, you're not going to lose just
in case it's the Packers, no okay that's only it
So we have all different picks this week. I like my reason. I like it.
It's not like a couple of weeks ago.
We all picked the same. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
So I was going to be sad. And that's the way it should be.
Personally, I want to be happy.
And you guys said, well, that's just the way it works.
But just to clarify, we all picked the Jets
this week, right? Did that happen?
Yeah, we did. Yeah, we did. Wow.
That's like the first time in good night picks history.
I think in the history of Vegas, it's the first time ever.
Three people walk through the room and actually bet on the Jets.
It's never happened.
First time ever right here on Good Night, New York.
This is the first time ever.
Okay.
Our pal Lou Alvarez, we always appreciate you hanging out with us.
We do.
I love hanging out.
Thank you.
I love the couch.
I'm going to sleep here.
It's nice and comfy.
I might sleep.
Oh, my gosh.
The time went so, so, so quickly.
We had so much fun.
The operative word is so.
So.
S-O.
It's time to go.
Yes, yes, it is.
We'll see you tomorrow here on Good Night, New York.
For now, I'm Ryan Christopher.
And I am Crystal Young.
Please make it up.
Good night, New York!
