This skateboarder broke a world record of 151 km/h on a Quebec road
Oct 24, 2026
My name is Diego Poncelet and I'm a downhill skateboarder
and I just broke the skateboarding
speed record and went 151.83 kilometers per hour
which is about I believe 94 miles an hour.
It's I would say almost a lifelong dream
or at least when I started skating when I was 14 I
thought I'd love to one day become the fastest skater
on the planet. It was about four years
ago that I actually sort of channeled all
my energies into this project. It took a long time
because it was a very difficult challenge the last record
was set with a big big tailwind that only
happens about once a year the road had
also deteriorated quite a bit so most people thought
that 150 was not possible and so it took a lot
of time to develop different aerodynamic appendices
that i added to my body for it to be possible
also trained of course my technique my mental etc
in terms of the road i had been told again
that this was not skatable anymore because it had
deteriorated over the winters in canada i had to go
and check it out for myself it was actually
skatable how come canada how come quebec well you guys have
the fastest roads in the world it's
difficult to know exactly why
but you you have some pretty crazy engineers that get us some
really good grades which for us is absolutely amazing
the first day of testing we had no wind
but we broke it and we got 146.8
and 147.4 i did not feel satisfied and i didn't celebrate and
everyone was telling me why did you not celebrate man
this is you've been chasing this for so long
and it's because i knew the battle was not over
in reality i wanted the 150 and it was quite
difficult actually the days after that because we did
not have favorable conditions for a while
and thankfully on the last day from 4 to 5 p.m
the wind changed it turned and right at the moment
where it was coming from the northeast we just got it perfectly
and that was the 151 first off
absolute ecstasy right like just a deep sense
of happiness of pride for all the people who helped
me also a little bit of emotion since the guy
who broke it before me was a good friend of ours and
he passed away last year from a cancer
so it was also a tribute to him he was the only guy who
thought that 150 was possible
so when we got it we thought yes dude you were right it was possible
what usually happens to athletes and other people
who achieve a long goal they think well what now
i've been obsessed with this for four years
of constantly thinking about it and suddenly i have
like all this space in my head to think about something else
so i'm gonna have to think about
the next crazy thing.
