Thank you.
Let's get you caught up on that breaking
news now out of Rockdale County,
where a school bus carrying football players
and coaches from Salem High School crashed last night.
The wreck happened on Highway 138 near I-20 in Conyers.
Good Day, Brittany Adney is live
from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta
with the latest on what we know right now.
Hi, Brittany.
Hey there, Kaitlin.
Good morning.
Well, the relieving news here is that there
were no fatalities in that bus crash.
And the latest update that we received from Rockdale County school
officials is that 22 students and three staff members were transferred
to hospitals throughout Metro Atlanta to be treated for their injuries.
A return trip from a Friday night football game took a dangerous
and terrifying turn
when a bus carrying the Salem High School football team flipped over.
You can see the vehicle laying on its side after impact.
The Rockdale County School District says 22 students,
7 trainers, 2 coaches and the bus driver were all involved.
Head Coach Frederick Green told us an assistant coach
and trainer were airlifted to an area hospital for their injuries.
Fox 5 did learn that Children's Healthcare
of Atlanta's Arthur M. Blank Hospital was immediately
on standby for the possibility of a mass casualty event.
So resources were immediately put into action.
The school district also has staff at the various area hospitals
to help support all the victims and their families.
There's no word yet on the condition of all of the victims.
We do know that GSP is handling the investigation
and looking into the cause of the crash,
but they have not yet released any type of details
or statement regarding the accident.
We'll, of course, keep you updated as that information comes in.
But for now, reporting live in Atlanta,
Brittany Adney for Good Day Atlanta.
On top of those breaking details, thank you, Brittany.
Thank
you.
