I don't know about you, but I'm not a big fan of speed cameras.
I don't like the idea that there's some little hidden
camera sitting there waiting to give you a ticket.
But the city of Tacoma, they feel differently.
A speed camera at North Point Way
and Marine View Drive in northeast Tacoma in about a span
of a month caught 400,000 drivers going over the speed limit.
Side note, I may have been one of them because there's this really
good Mexican place up there we've been going to, but I digress.
My colleague, Austin Cope, wrote the story,
and that's about 77% of the drivers that went through there
that were speeding, according to the city's data.
And the company the city's contracting with to issue these citations,
they can't even keep up with all of them.
So they're issuing, kind of doing
a lottery system and issuing up to 100 a day.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of this big brother surveillance type
stuff, but I also understand there's some legitimate safety concerns,
and there's some winding, kind of hilly roads in that area.
So what do you think of the cameras? Are you a fan?
Not a fan? Let me know in the comments.
