Police in Lamont are investigating what appears
to be an animal hoarding situation.
Brittany Tulis is live with what we know
so far about the number of animals taken from that home.
Hopefully they're okay, Brittany.
Hey guys, actually we're still hearing
some dogs inside this home behind me.
We also can confirm that it may not have just been dogs
that law enforcement removed from this home yesterday.
We found court documents filed yesterday
for an emergency firearms restraining order,
meaning firearms may have also been taken from this home.
But just take a look. You can see
those two orange condemned notifications right there on the door.
And I've actually seen a dog walk back
and forth between some of the windows in the front there.
Now, we don't have an exact total of how many dogs
were removed from the home from police.
But a local animal rescue says it's over 50 animals
in this apparent hoarding situation.
And again, we're still hearing dogs barking from this house.
A neighbor saying that there may be over five dogs still in this home.
And we also know we could see charges stemming
from this still active investigation.
Now just take a look at this video
of the dogs being removed last night.
You can see a handful of Cook County
and surrounding county animal control vehicles
with dogs being removed from the home and put in cages in the back.
Now this is on the corner of McCarthy Road and Julia Street.
According to Lamont Police, a search
warrant was being served at the home
and the court documents we found show a search warrant
to seize firearms from this home was issued yesterday.
Now, Lamont PD adding several dogs were also removed,
but they didn't give a total of how many.
A local animal rescue, though, is painting a clearer picture.
Ruby Whiskers Animal Rescue posting yesterday that over 50 dogs
were rescued, adding they were living in deplorable conditions.
Ruby Whiskers mentioning at least one dog was pregnant,
and they also mentioned some puppies possibly being inside the home.
Other rescue adding in this post that they tried to take
in some of the dogs, but police wouldn't let them,
adding that they're considered property in this court case.
Now, Lamont PD also said that we could see charges stemming
from this investigation.
We're hoping to learn more about that this morning.
Another thing we're also hoping to learn
is just how many dogs total were taken from the home,
how many dogs are still inside the home.
And a big question I have, guys, is just what the condition,
what the health condition of these dogs were.
If they were in an apparent hoarding situation,
they could be in not so great health.
So we're hoping to learn that and also where they were taken.
It seems like they may have been dispersed
through several county animal control services.
So we're working to learn that stuff, but I'll send it to you for now.
Yeah, I hope we can get some answers.
And also, I hope they're available
and they're healthy enough to be up for adoption.
They can find some good homes.
Brittany, thank you.
