Photographer Aubrey Morey and architectural designer Hudson bought their Philadelphia home for its garage-turned-carriage house, only to find the roof collapsed and the space too far gone to rebuild. Instead of a studio, they built a courtyard, raising a sunken backyard, pouring a new grass lawn over what had been a cement slab, and building a stone retaining wall with Aubrey’s dad to level the once-sloped yard.
Today, Homeworthy walks through the finished space: salvaged brick walls kept intentionally rough for an Italian-French ruins feel, custom-built shutters, a fountain found on Facebook Marketplace from a couple downsizing after their wedding, and a mix of white Bobo hydrangea and catmint planted along the beds.
