Neighbors concerned over development proposal

I don't think anybody's against affordable housing.
It's not that at all.
I think the way that it's being executed
is not with what the community is not getting behind.
This 4.7 acre plot of land on 6200 Menchaca Road was purchased
by the Austin Housing Finance Corporation back in 2021.
The purpose, to create more affordable housing
in an area where the city says currently has a low supply.
I know that there's a lot more people
in the city struggling to find housing down here.
So I think it would be a better opportunity
for the people out here in the city to have housing authorities
and for them to build more of that out here.
But neighbors I spoke with who live right across
from the proposed development aren't on board
with the potential 275 units the AHFC is proposing.
Some tell me parking and traffic are concerns.
Just the overflow of parking for a up to 275 unit development.
Just the questions of, you know, what that will look like,
where just kind of the transient just volume of people and activity.
Currently, the land is zoned as single family resident,
but a request to rezone the property to M4 would mean
a four to five story building could be built.
We don't have anything like that in the community, anything that big.
So it would really be out of place with everything else,
with everything being, you know, single-family homes.
The height of the building raising concerns over privacy.
The privacy is a main concern.
There's a neighborhood that backs up to it and then
also this one that it would see into all the backyards.
But Keanu Anthony, who lives in the same neighborhood,
doesn't feel like the height of the complex would be an issue.
As long as everybody mind their business,
stay in their own lane, I think it wouldn't be a problem.
So far as the traffic, I don't really
got much to say about the traffic.
That's just the city in general.
