Sprites Cirrus Clouds And Elves All In One Picture!

James Kaufman will report today. What are sprites, cirrus clouds, and elves? Red sprites and cirrus clouds seen above the Caribbean. This photo is not what it seems. Sprites do not come from cirrus clouds. Cirrus clouds are thin, wispy, high-altitude clouds made entirely of ice crystals, commonly known as mare's tails. Scientists say that contrails, turn into cirrus clouds although they also form naturally at certain times of the year when i hear the contrail turns into a cirrus cloud i instantly think of weather manipulation the cloud seeding in the caribbean where this picture was taken which could have been an attempt to produce a storm I will show you the radar from that day and today, and we'll talk about weather manipulation. The real source of these sprites was a severe thunderstorm 150 miles south of Puerto Rico. Sprites are large-scale electrical discharges which occur high above thunderstorm clouds, giving rise to quite a variety or range of visual shapes. They are triggered by the discharge of positive lightning between the thundercloud and the ground. The phenomenon was named after the mischievous sprite, a character in Shakespeare's Ariel or Puck. It is also a bacronym for stratospheric mesospheric perturbations resulting from intense thunderstorm electrification. They are regularly colored reddish or orange, sometimes greenish and blue, with hanging tendrils, like tentacles, below arching branches above. They can also be preceded by a reddish halo, which you will see in the picture that we will show you again. This is known as a Sprite Halo. They often occur in clusters reaching 50 to 90 kilometers or 31 to 56 miles above Earth's surface. What you're looking at is a satellite map from the 1st of August with a tropical convection cell. An exceptionally strong 152.7 k-A lightning bolt launch. The red tendrils, almost 90 kilometers high in context, is about five times the current of an ordinary bolt of lightning. The low-hanging cirrus clouds simply got in the way and are no part of this system. They were directly in front of the red sprites. The cirrus clouds did not block the view. Take a look at that picture again. This is also a red halo. We can see the Cirrus clouds all through here, but these sprites were so bright that the red shined through all obstructions. Now, these have nothing to do with Aurora Borealis, and so many people get them confused. Also visible behind the Cirrus is a broad red disk. This is probably an elf, and I'm guessing that this is the bright red disc right here. This is a rare species of sprites that were discovered in 1990 by cameras on board the space shuttle. These are much easier to see from above than below. Now, these strong sprites that were at least five times as strong as a regular lightning bolt generated an intense electromagnetic pulse, or EMP. The elves marked the spot where the EMP hit Earth's ionosphere, which is right here. You're seeing a lot of things happen here. We're seeing Cirrus clouds. We're seeing sprites coming down from a heavy thunderstorm. We're seeing an elf, which is an EMP, created by this very strong sprite or sprites.
