Hollywood Piano presents the Steingräber piano as part of their Oktoberfest celebration of European heritage. The video highlights the brand's rich history, its connection to legendary composers like Liszt and Wagner, and its unique status as the only completely hand-built piano manufacturer of its scale in the world today.
This is the Artist Pianos Showroom at Hollywood Piano.
We call it Artist Pianos of Los Angeles.
In this room is the greatest collection
of premium pianos in the United States
where you'll see every possible selection of styles, finishes
from the greatest pianos of Europe.
Today, we're going to feature this piano.
The month of October at Hollywood Piano we're celebrating Oktoberfest
and we're honoring our
European and European heritage pianos
and the very first one I want to talk about is the Steingraber.
You know Steingraber traces their roots back to 1820
and the company was actually founded in 1852.
Edward Steingraber was the piano technician for Franz Liszt.
And he went on later to build pianos for Liszt
and for Wagner in Bayreuth, Germany.
If you go to Bayreuth today,
there's actually a piano that Franz Liszt concertized on.
And I've personally played that piano.
And you can feel the essence of Liszt through that piano
when you're sitting there playing it.
So Edward's first piano combined both English
...and Viennese action traditions,
and was considered revolutionary at the time.
That was his Opus 1 piano.
Steingraber has received accolades since 1867 on their pianos,
and today they're still honored with some great pianists
who choose to play a Steingraber wherever they can.
Here in Los Angeles, we have the Colburn School,
which is one of the most prominent piano conservatories in the world.
And they recently selected a nine-foot Steingraber concert grand
to use in their recital hall.
Richard Wagner is very much a part of the Steingraber story
and a part of Bayreuth where Steingraber is manufactured.
And if you go to the factory in Bayreuth today,
you will see an instrument they created for Wagner when Wagner said,
create me something that can create this kind of sound.
And they did. So you can go to Bayreuth,
to the Steingraber factory, to the museum and see this instrument.
They created to make some really cool sounds today.
Those might be done by a synthesizer, but in that day...
They had to do it that way for Wagner.
Steingraber has built an impressive following among some
of the world's greatest musicians.
The list includes people like Martha Algarich, Wilhelm Kempf,
of course I mentioned Franz Liszt and Richard Wagner, Alfred Brendel,
Daniel Barenboim, and Daniil Trifonov to name just a few.
Unlike many other pianos built today in Europe,
and some of the greatest pianos in the world today
are using CNC machinery,
but Steingräber is truly the only completely hand-built piano
made in the world today.
Well, there's also the Ravenscroft piano from the United States,
and what's interesting is the founder
and the owner of that company told me if he wasn't buying
He's playing his piano.
He'd buy a Steingräber. Now his piano is probably four times the price
of a Steingräber and they make just two a year.
So if you really want a truly hand-built
work of art instrument, the only one in the world today
that makes any kind of number of pianos,
well that's Steingräber.
The family Seventh Generation is still running it. They're a
Lovely people. I know them well.
Udo Steingräber, Dahlia.
And today, the company is run by their kids,
Fanny and Alban.
They're just lovely, great, warm people,
and they're so passionate about what they do.
So if you ever make it to Bayreuth, Germany,
let us know and we'll arrange for you
to visit the Steingräber factory.
That's a moment about Steingräber
during our Oktoberfest Piano Sale Month.
We'll look forward to seeing you.
